MIS is a community of exploration and openness, using open teaching methods and prioritizing the development of students' abilities. With the IB mindset, MIS students are knowledgeable and well-versed in communication and self-reflection, placing importance on their character development along with their academic pursuits. They approach learning with curiosity and a spirit of inquiry, following social etiquette and possessing the ability to collaborate with others. Message from Principal Ms. Alice

Dear MIS teachers and students, in this assembly, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the excellent performance you all showcased during the Santa Claus Welcome Ceremony! Your brilliant performance demonstrated teamwork, creativity, and talent, allowing all of us to experience the joy and warmth that Christmas brings.

The significance of the Santa Claus Welcome Ceremony lies in conveying our anticipation and joy for Christmas. Santa Claus symbolizes generosity and care, and his arrival represents the bestowing of peace and happiness. By participating in the welcome ceremony, we collectively embrace the arrival of Santa Claus and experience the spirit of unity and joy. Let us watch the retrospective video of your outstanding performance together, and once again, thank you for courageously spreading happiness!

At the same time, I am delighted to announce that MIS will be organizing a series of exciting Christmas activities in December. The real Santa Claus will visit MIS tomorrow, and we look forward to you all creating unforgettable moments with him!

We will have a Christmas Storybook Reading Week, encouraging everyone to read Christmas-related books and share them with others, allowing us to delve deeper into the stories and culture behind Christmas. The launch of Public Welfare Week will inspire us to focus on helping those in need, including both people and animals, while also raising awareness about the current state and development of the world, spreading love and warmth. The Business Challenge and Christmas Bazaar Week will stimulate innovation and business thinking. Teachers will organize and guide students from different houses in exploring and researching business topics. We hope you will have a pleasant and memorable time at the Christmas Bazaar! We will invite all parents to attend the Christmas Carol Concert, where they can enjoy your beautiful voices and use their talents to assist and convey blessings through songs.

In addition, the Gift Exchange and Art Week will provide us with more opportunities for communication and expression. These diverse activities bring us joy and entertainment and foster compassion, cooperation, and creativity through participation. Through these activities, we hope everyone will have a meaningful and enjoyable Christmas, experiencing the power of unity and warmth. 

Lastly, I extend my sincerest wishes to all teachers and students. I hope you have joyful moments with your family and friends during Christmas, experiencing Christmas's truly enchanting happiness, and I wish you all a merry Christmas!

Part.1


P1 UOI-Dance Class  



I have witnessed remarkable progress among the P1 children in the recent dance class stage. Their performance has proven their improvement in classroom routines. These students have made significant strides in focusing during class, paying attention to learning dance movements and showcasing a high level of learning ability and comprehension. I have noticed that most students practice dance at home over the weekends by following instructional videos. As their proficiency in the movements improves, they become more confident and expressive in class. All the poses and movements in their dance performances are independently designed based on their characters and the situations they portray. This ability to innovate and express themselves is commendable in dance learning and life. We hope they can continue to maintain this skill.

At the same time, I have also noticed that the student's sense of rhythm still needs improvement. I will incorporate rhythm games and activities in the upcoming dance classes to help them enhance this aspect. We believe that through these enjoyable activities, the children will not only enjoy the process of learning dance but also make effective progress in developing their sense of rhythm.


Part.2


P2 UOI-PE Class  



This week, the P2 students participated in a series of meaningful sports activities. Firstly, they took part in a sports game with a Christmas theme, allowing them to experience the joy of Christmas in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. This activity helped them develop their teamwork and cooperation skills and practice a collective sense of pride.

They also began learning the basic rules and fundamental techniques of soccer. Through explanations and demonstrations, the students gradually grasped the basic rules of soccer and the correct way to perform the movements. Throughout the learning process, they continuously practiced and gained a deeper understanding of their physical capabilities and performance in sports.

In the classroom, the students cultivated an interest in ball sports and, more importantly, learned teamwork and developed a sense of collective honor through practical experiences. This experiential learning approach allowed the students to understand better concepts such as fairness, cooperation, and responsibility. Through their learning, the students gradually mastered the proper body posture and techniques for generating force, which significantly improved their coordination and athletic performance. This sense of accomplishment and experience boosted their confidence and ignited a greater passion for learning sports.


Part.3


P3 UOI-PE Class  



This week was our overall review week, and we conducted the following reviews:

We reviewed movements and techniques related to net-based sports, such as badminton and volleyball. This included rehearsing the optimal positions for each sport and emphasizing precise understanding and application of the techniques. Through in-depth analysis and repeated practice, the students will better understand and master these movements, enabling them to apply them more effectively in related competitions.

We also had a review week for track and field. Over the past period, we taught the students a lot of fundamental knowledge and skills related to track and field, including sprinting, long jump, and high jump. Through the review this week, we aim to consolidate further and enhance the student's understanding and mastery of these events. This will better prepare them for upcoming exams and enable them to apply the knowledge to their daily exercise and future sports activities.

In addition, we introduced an improved version of pickleball. This game adds new elements and rules to the traditional pickleball gameplay, making it more challenging and fun. The new regulations and elements require students to have sharp reflexes and excellent hand-eye coordination. Through this game, we hope to help students improve their hand-eye coordination and reaction time, which are crucial in many sports and daily activities.


Part.4


P4 UOI-Art Class  



This week, the P4 students had a special art class celebrating Christmas. Before starting the painting task, the students were guided through a fun guessing game to familiarize them with traditional European Christmas decorations. The children enthusiastically participated in this game, guessing the names of various decorations, and gradually learning about these representative European Christmas elements. They exercised their observation and language skills through the game and built anticipation for the upcoming painting task. Next, the students were shown how to draw a Christmas tree using markers. This task required them to apply their drawing techniques and unleash their imagination and creativity. During the drawing process, the children could choose their favorite colors, shapes, and decorations, making the Christmas tree their creation.

Finally, the children used paper-cutting toys to decorate the completed Christmas tree. They carefully cut out various shapes of decorations, such as stars, ribbons, and gifts, and then pasted them in the appropriate positions. This activity enhanced their fine hand motor skills and cultivated their aesthetic abilities and creative imagination.

This art class not only allowed the children to experience the joyful atmosphere of Christmas but also taught them how to express their ideas and emotions through painting. Moreover, it deepened their understanding of the traditions and culture of European Christmas, broadening their horizons and knowledge.


Part.5


P5 UOI-Music Class  



With the conclusion of the current UOI unit, the focal point of this week's music class for P5 was the central idea of Human Migration. This theme was carefully integrated into their music curriculum, highlighting how immigrants carry their musical traditions when moving from one place to another. These musical traditions encompass various genres, including ceremonial music often played during celebrations, gatherings, or significant moments; folk music derived from the lives of the people, reflecting their joys, sorrows, and daily experiences; work songs used to coordinate tasks and boost morale during collective labor; dance music accompanying various dance movements; instrumental music with elegant melodies used in formal and informal settings; and popular songs widely disseminated and enjoyed by the general public. These traditions also include a variety of unique musical instruments that add more color and depth to the music.

In P5 music class, we delved into the "Great Migration" between 1910 and 1970, a historical moment when approximately six million African Americans migrated from rural areas in the South to cities, as well as the West and other regions of the United States. We studied how this migration propelled the development and dissemination of blues music, which originated in the southern states but expanded to other parts of the country through the Great Migration. This process enhanced communication and understanding between different cultures and communities and enriched America's musical culture.

Furthermore, another focus this week was the Christmas song music concert rehearsal. The students are putting in their best efforts to prepare for this concert, wholeheartedly and professionally engaging in the rehearsals. This concert will be an opportunity for them to showcase their talents and demonstrate the progress they have made in their music studies. Participating in such activities improves the students' musical skills teamwork and performance abilities.


Part.6


P6 UOI-French Class  



This week, the P6 students performed exceptionally well in class. Not only were they able to maintain silence and prepare themselves before the class bell rang, but they also demonstrated great focus and active thinking during the lessons. This behavior reflects their dedication and serious attitude towards classroom learning.

By learning new verbs and phrases such as "chanter" (to sing), "dancer" (to dance), "jouer de la guitare" (to play the guitar), "jouer du piano" (to play the piano), "écouter de la musique" (to listen to music), the students not only enriched their language expression but also became more capable of accurately expressing their preferences and interests.

It is worth mentioning that the students have learned to memorize French pronunciation in their ways. This demonstrated their diligent thinking during class, careful consideration of the characteristics of French pronunciation, and attempts to apply them in real-life situations. This learning method improves their learning efficiency and enhances their confidence and interest.

Furthermore, the students have shown good teamwork during the learning process. They actively answered questions and were willing to help each other and solve problems together. This team spirit is of great significance to their learning and development.


Part.7


M1 ICT Class  



This week in our ICT (Information and Communication Technology) class, we introduced the basic programming concepts and enabled students to use this knowledge to create interactive applications. By using JavaScript as the primary programming language, we taught students how to write code using this widely used language. Additionally, we utilized App Lab as the programming environment, providing students with an intuitive and user-friendly platform to translate their theoretical knowledge into practical applications.

Although we are currently using simple commands and examples for teaching, it does not mean that these lessons are basic and easy. On the contrary, these lessons aim to establish a solid foundation for students, enabling them to understand better and apply more complex programming concepts. Students can successfully transition to higher-level programming knowledge and skills by grasping and mastering the fundamental principles. Learning programming is not just about acquiring a skill or tool. Programming education provides students with a unique mindset that allows them to approach the world in a logical, problem-solving-oriented manner. This mindset is crucial in the digital domain and valuable in many aspects of daily life. Through programming, students can learn to analyze problems, seek solutions, and continuously experiment and improve in practice. They will have more opportunities to engage in innovation and creation. Programming skills will open new possibilities for students, whether in school projects, personal hobbies, or future careers. They can develop their applications, create interactive websites, design games, and even explore the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning.


Part.8


M2 Natural science Class  



In this week's natural science class, we delved into the fascinating world of plant reproduction, gaining a renewed appreciation for the magical and intricate aspects of the natural world. Starting from the core concept of pollination, we explored in detail how plants spread pollen through various means to propagate. This involves the biological characteristics of plants and factors related to ecology and environmental studies. Through in-depth learning, we could better understand plants' life activities and survival strategies, leading to a deeper understanding of the natural world.

After understanding pollination, we delved into the more complex process of fertilization. This process involves the fusion of sperm and egg cells and is a crucial step in the origin of life. We gained insights into how seeds are formed by studying the fertilization process. This helps us understand the fundamental principles of plant reproduction and provides insight into the origins and evolution of life. In the latter part of the course, our focus shifted to seed germination, a critical stage in the growth of a new plant from a seed. Through observation and experimentation, we learned how seeds initiate development under suitable conditions and develop into new plant organisms. This part of the learning journey deepened our understanding of the resilience and adaptability of life and provided a more comprehensive understanding of the life processes in natural science.

Additionally, we reviewed the different parts of a flower, such as petals, sepals, and pistils, and understood their roles in the plant reproductive process. This knowledge helped us deepen our understanding of plant reproduction and appreciate plants' intelligence and strategies to adapt to their environment and to propagate. By acquiring this knowledge, our understanding of the natural science framework will be further enriched and refined.

IB Themed Activity

Date:December 8th

Review of the second UOI transdisciplinary theme in our MIS-IB PYP – “Who we are in place and time” which we completed this week. Additionally, we would like to share with you the learning tasks and collation process that students have completed during this theme day.

In this transdisciplinary theme, students carried out a series of explorations, including understanding direction and space-time, personal history, family and travel, human discovery, exploration, and migration, as well as the relationship between individuals and civilization and their mutual connection, exploring from local and global perspectives.

Congratulations to MIS for becoming a member school of Chong Wa International Baccalaureate  School Association(CISA)

From December 1st to 3rd, 2023, the first annual conference, organized by Chong Wa International Baccalaureate  School Association(CISA)with the theme of "Implementing the IB curriculum in the local Chinese context", was grandly opened at Jiaoye School, Macao. The annual conference brought together more than 300 representatives from IB schools and educational institutions from various regions to jointly explore the IB international curriculum's localization practice and future development. Our school's Executive Principal, Ms. Hermione, was invited to attend this annual conference, participate in the CISA member school conference, and represent the school to receive the "Member School of CISA" certificate. 


Part.4

MIS students are invited to attend the Santa Claus Welcome Party

We sincerely express our praise and admiration to all the participating students! They demonstrated an unparalleled spirit of collaboration and presented a fantastic show. The event, including a chorus of Christmas songs and a dance performance, brought an overwhelming atmosphere of warmth and joy. The students showed an incredible spirit of collaboration during rehearsals and performances. They supported each other and worked together genuinely, and each did their best to ensure the version went off without a hitch.
