【Editor’s Note】: 2020-2021 school year, BIBS welcomes a new team of outstanding, professional and highly qualified educators to the family. Their experience and expertise will be a huge plus to our continued commitment in the education career. From this semester we will introduce our outstanding BIBS school management team with a series of principal’s interview.

 

Following the last interview of our new UES Principal Michael Donaldson, today we will meet the Chinese Principal of BIBS Shunyi Campus Ms.Grace.

毕业于北京师范大学,取得工商管理学硕士。创办国际学校中文教师交流平台与中文辩论和阅读赛事,有效地推动了教师专业发展与校区间学生交流。熟悉国际学校管理,精通 IGCSE与IB国际课程,善于融合国际课程的教育理念与国内课程的精华,创新校本课程。

Graduated from Beijing Norm University with MBA degree. Founded platforms for Chinese teachers at international schools to communicate and arrange debate and reading contests. Familiar with international school management, good command of IGCSE and IB curriculum, skilled at combining international curriculum concepts with the essence of Chinese education programs.




今年是我从教的第二十年。从重点公立学校到国际教育领域,在中西管理文化与教学理念的滋养下,不同的教育体制促进了我个人的专业发展,让我由一名一线教师逐渐走上了教学管理岗位。因为教授过二年级到十二年级的学生,关注学生成长深深地影响了我的课程设计理念。我的研究生专业偏向管理,从北师大毕业后,我更关注学校的管理理念与文化对学习社区中的每一个成员的潜移默化地支持

This is my 20th year in education. From top public school to international education, I have been learning from both Chinese and western education concepts and have developed from a frontline teacher to a school manager. Having taught students from G2-G12 has deeply changed the way I design curriculums. My master’s degree was more Management related, and ever since graduating from Beijing Norm University I have paid more attention to how school management and school culture support each member of the learning community.

在多年实际的工作经验中,我觉得中国的“国际教育”是一个很值得探讨的话题。“国际教育”在外籍子女学校和双语学校中的实施既有共同点,又有差别。这里我主要谈的是双语学校的国际教育。国际教育已经从引进国外的课程体系过渡到关注中西方的课程体系如何可以发生深层的化学反应,形成植根于母国文化,倡导国际情怀的融合课程体系而“中西融合”恰是青苗二十余年始终坚持的教育理念。


此次出任青苗顺义校区中方教学校长职位,我希望能和我的团队继续秉承青苗“采中西合璧之萃,品文化融合之美”的办学理念,从课程内容、教学策略、文化传统、培养目标、价值观等不同的维度出发,从以下几个方面做好中西融合。

In the years of my teaching career, I find the international education in China an interesting topic. International educations in foreign schools and bilingual schools have things in common, yet can be very different. Nowadays international education has changed from simply introducing foreign curriculum system to integrated curriculum with global vision and Chinese roots. This has been the core concept of BIBS in its 20 years of development.

 

Being the Chinese principal of BIBS Shunyi Campus, I wish to adhere to this concept, and improve the integration from curriculum design, teaching strategy, cultural roots, education objectives and values.



首先,融合体现在课程资源上。在小学和中学的课程中,我们把中国国家课程体系与IB课程体系进行整合,关键点是可以发挥不同课程体系的优势科目。例如,语文学科,我们选用部编的教材。在部编的基础上我们会通过中文图书馆课推动整本书阅读任务的落实,培养学生的阅读技能与交流能力;通过中国文化课为学生打开语文学习背后丰富的文化世界;通过语言类文本的补充搭建与现实生活链接的桥梁。


其次,融合体现在教学理念与策略上,因为好的课程设计是通过实施体现出它的价值的。我们为老师提供多样化的教学理念与策略学习机会,鼓励老师在教学实践中进行整合应用。

In the ES and MSHS curriculums, we combine the best parts of the Chinese National Education Program with IB, i.e. the Chinese courses, we will promote reading with the Chinese Library classes built on the National Education Program, in order to improve students’ reading and communication skills. We will also present a colorful world of cultures to our students with the Chinese Culture classes, and establish the bridge between textbook and real-life issues.

 

We will also integrate the Chinese and western education concepts and strategies. A good curriculum is designed to bring its value. We will offer our faculty with diversified teaching concepts and strategy learning opportunities, and encourage them to apply in daily teaching practice. i.e. our ES joint courses are to bring out the best of both Chinese and foreign teachers, for a more personalized development of each students.



最后,管理理念的融合是课程实施最有利的支持。目前青苗顺义校区的管理团队是有中西方领导组成,大家都认同中西融合的理念。我们会成为老师教学实践与创新的坚实的后盾。管理团队的支持将转化成形成融合文化的驱动力。这些是我们新学年将关注的融合维度。


我非常期待与青苗社区成员携手共创我们校区美好的明天。

At last, integrated management concept is a great support of courses. Our campus has a management team of Chinese and foreign leaders, and we all believe in supporting our teachers with integrated concepts. This will be our focus for the new school year of 2020-2021.

 

I look forward to a better future at BIBS Shunyi Campus with all community members.
