BIBS青苗国际双语学校：青苗女孩荣获“全球华人创新大赛”决赛第一名！

大家好，我是12年级的学生Alice田驰。去年8月我参加了“全球华人创新研究大挑战”，上周得知，我的团队获得了两个奖项：一个是“全球总决赛团队一等奖”，另一个是“全球总决赛黑客马拉松金奖”。

I am a student from Grade 12. My name is Alice Tian. Today I will introduce China Thinks Big competition, and CTB for short. I joined the CTB competition last year in 2019 and I got my results last week. My team won two prizes. We got the First prize in the Global Final Team Competition and Gold Prize in Global Final Hackathon Competition.

先跟大家介绍一下这项比赛吧。来自哈佛的全球华人创新研究大挑战（China Thinks Big，简称CTB），是以学术研究和社会实践推动社会创新的国际级别高中生创新活动。每个团队都需要确定一个社会问题，进行研究并提供实施方案。

CTB的项目精神是“⽴⼤志，做⼩事”。

“立大志”是指每个团队需要确定社区中的问题，并围绕该问题寻找学术资源、收集相关数据，以形成高质量的研究项目，从而为实施“改善社区的具体行动”提供基础。

“做小事”是指CTB不许纸上谈兵，它的最终目标是鼓励参与者运用他们的知识和技能来解决现实世界的问题。

总之，CTB鼓励由实践带来的社会影响力，无论你的创新是学术成果的应用、实体发明、公益行动、艺术表演、还是商业计划，都是要从最熟悉的身边世界开始，通过切实可行的实践和行为，不断检验和改进你的研究成果，并学会用科学的指标来衡量实践带来的社会影响力。

CTB is a research and innovation challenge focusing on social impact and community implementation. Each team will need to identify a social issue, conduct research and provide solutions also implementing it.

现在，我将为大家介绍比赛流程。每个团队需要完成三个阶段的竞赛。

首先是在线任务。每个参赛团队在线完成四项作业后，开始着手深入研究，找到问题的根源，提供可行的解决方案并加以实施。

在线竞赛审核通过者将晋级全国赛。每个团队面对面回答来自不同行业的专家所提出的问题。小队还将有机会与他们交流，听取他们的建议，完善他们的的项目。

而在全国赛中胜出的队伍将继续参加每年10月在哈佛大学举行的全球竞赛。参与者将有机会在整个哈佛社区面前展示他们的项目，并回答哈佛大学教授和来自各个行业的专家所提出的问题。评委将全面评估小队的的研究和实施过程，同时评估小队的陈述和讨论的能力。

Think Big simply refers to each team need to identify a problem in the community and formulate a research question around it, finding academic sources and collecting data to generate a high quality research project that can serve as a meaningful foundation for informed community action.

And Start Small indicates that CTB does not stop on paper, the ultimate goal is to encourage participants to apply their knowledge and skills to solve real world problems. Through a carefully designed community action project, students will exert a genuinely positive impact on their communities. Students can approach their solutions through various areas. Through trial and error, continuous reflection, and perseverance, participants have the opportunity to produce a measurable community impact in a project they can continue well beyond the end of CTB.

现在，我将介绍CTB最刺激和最具挑战性的部分，黑客马拉松。

黑客马拉松是一项针对真实案例的研究竞赛，旨在24小时内以团队形式测试学生的问题解决能力和数据分析能力。但由于今年的“云比赛”的限制，今年的竞赛时间延长至48小时。 

今年，黑客马拉松的主题是：在应对新冠病毒的一系列应急反应中，你认为哪些可以改进或进一步发展的？在参赛团队向评委提出解决方案后，获得最多虚拟投资资金的小队将被视为本次比赛的获胜者。

在48小时内，我和我的团队设计了调查问卷，通过采访老师和学生们，获得了非常有效的反馈。我们经过讨论并确定了最终解决方案，在评委面前成功展示了幻灯片。48小时对于大部分小队来说都非常的紧凑，幸运的是我们团队6个人，分别来自2个国家和6个城市：北京，上海，西安，旧金山，密歇根和费城。因此我们可以利用时区的优势，像接力一样24小时不间断地执行项目。

Each team will need to complete three stages of the competition. By completing online assignments, students will gain access to join the national completion held in Shanghai. After finishing the national completion, outstanding teams will earn the opportunity to show their project on a bigger stage, the Global competition will hold at Harvard University and you will have a chance to show your project in front of the whole Harvard community and answer questions asked by professors from Harvard and experts from various industries.

For online assignments, each team will have to complete 4 pieces of works, and this is just the beginning stage of the whole competition. You will need to conduct intensive research, find the roots of the issue, provide practicable solutions and implement them.

Then to the National Competition, each team needs to answer questions raised by experts from different industries face to face. You will also get a chance to talk with them, listen to their advice, and perfect your project.

If the team reaches to the Global competition. During the team competition round, the judges will comprehensively evaluate your research and implementation process while assessing your ability to present and discuss your project in detail. And at the end of the presentation you will also need to respond to critical questions raised by the judges.

我的团队试图解决，如何在中国北京促进特殊儿童的融合教育？我们旨在帮助自闭症儿童建立更好的学习环境。这些孩子面临的问题包括缺乏特殊学校，高质量的指导和专业教师等问题。

之所以选择这一主题，原因在于我的弟弟是一个自闭症儿童。我与Kent一起长大，目睹了我的家人是如何克服重重障碍来支持他的教育和生活。随着Kent的成长，我们遇到了更多的障碍，包括缺乏老师，社会偏见和刻板印象等，几乎所有问题都阻止了Kent追求更好的生活，也阻止了我们更好地支持他。作为他的姐姐，我感到自己有责任帮助他以及整个自闭症患者群体获得社会的关注并促进融合教育。 

 为此，我们团队做了以下事情。首先，参观康复中心FlySolo，采访创始人Jon了解当前自闭症儿童面临的状况，并制作了关于该中心的宣传视频。然后，我们针对来自社会的四个不同群体进行了问卷调查，以调查社会对自闭症的认识及其对自闭症儿童和融合教育的态度。其次，我们去了北理工中学收集相关数据。再次，我们在多个媒体平台上发布了宣传视频，以宣传这一问题。最后，我们制作了一部有关自闭症儿童家庭的纪录片，让公众对自闭症儿童面临的现状有更深入的了解。

My team tried to solve the issue How to promote inclusive education for children with autism in Beijing, China? We aim to help children with autism for a better academic environment. Those children are facing problems including lack of specialized schools with high-quality instructions and professional tutors.

The reason why I do this competition is that my brother is an autistic child, I grow up with Kent, witnessed my family keep overcome more and more obstacles to support his education and living. As Kent is growing up, there are more obstacles our family encounter, lack of teachers, prejudice, and stereotypes... all these problems stop Kent from pursuing a better life, and it also prevents us from supporting him.

First, we visited the rehabilitation center, FlySolo and interviewed the founder Jon. Then we made a promotional video about the center and get to know the current situations faced by autistic children. Second, we made surveys faced to four different groups to investigate the public awareness of autism and their attitude towards autistic children and inclusive education. Third, we went to the High School Affiliated to BIT to gather our data. Fourth, we published our promotional video to various media platforms to promote the issue. Finally, we made a documentary about a family with autistic children to let the public have in-depth ideas about the current situation faced by autistic children.

我认为参加CTB有非常多的好处。

首先， CTB有一个校友平台，在这里，参赛者们可以结识所有顶尖学生，并与他们交流想法。

第二，因为比赛中要完成大量的研究报告，通过参赛可以大大提升个人的学术水平和写作技巧。

第三，由于参赛者可能分布在不同的城市或国家，想在长达一年的参赛过程中与队友保持紧密联系与合作。团队合作、领导组织以及项目管理等能力都是必不可少的。

第四，你还可以提升自己的时间管理技能，以确保在每个截止日期之前都完成项目计划。

第五，如果参赛者的小队获得了最高奖项，你们将有机会将研究报告发表在CTB的出版物中，并且还能收到哈佛大学教授的推荐信。

最后，从我个人的角度来看，从CTB学到的最有价值的技能就是执行力。在比赛中， 你不仅在纸上谈论自己的想法，还需要在现实中具体实施。这教会我不仅在思考和想象的层面寻找问题的解决方案，更需要通过实际的行动对社会产生影响。

There are various things I gained from joining CTB.

First, connection. CTB have an alumni network and you can meet all of the top students and communicate your ideas with them.

You will definitely improve your academic writing skills throughout the CTB, because there are lots of intensive reports to complete and it tested your holistic academic skills.

Since you will be working in a team, you will practice your leadership skills and cooperation skills. Collaborate with your teammates even though you might be in different cities or countries.

You will need to manage a yearlong project, so the project management is definitely important. You can also practice your time management skills to meet every deadline and plan for your project.

You will have a chance to make your own publications to CTB chronicles, if your team won the top prizes, and you will also receive the recommendation letters from professors at Harvard.

Finally, the implementation. During the competition, you are not only talking about your ideas, you will need to actually implement it. From my own perspective, this is the most valuable skill that I learnt from CTB. I’m not just thinking and imaging, I am actually doing and following my plan to make some influence on the society.
