At the recent International Education Exhibition 2019, our Head of Schools, Arturo Ruelas, attended the event as a guest speaker and gave an exclusive interview with the China International Education Network.

东华文泽学校与其他老牌国际学校相比有何不同?

As a new international school, what is the difference between TWIS and other traditional international schools?

东华文泽学校的价值观不只是从课堂上教授学生,也可以从学校每位教职员身上体现出来。不轮是校长还是老师,辅导员还是保安人员,他们都认同并实践着这些价值观。让学生们融入在学校价值观导向的环境中,是我们跟其他学校与众不同的地方。


一般学校较侧重于学术成绩或考试结果,但我认为这不是真正的教育。教育应该关注学生的全面发展:   社交及情绪技巧、身心健康、性格等等,当品德教育和各方面有正面的发展,自然学业有成。


而这也是我们的优势,因为这样的教育才能让学生终生难忘。当东华文泽学生毕业时,他们将带着最宝贵的经历和美好回忆离开校园。


It’s our values that are taught in our lessons and each staff member from the principal to teachers, the counsellor and security guards, they reflect these values. You will see these values are reflected in the whole environment of the school.


Other schools may just focus on academics or test results. I believe that is not the real education. Education should focus on the development of students: their social and emotional skills, well-being, characters and etc, the academic achievement will just follow.


At the same time, that is also our advantage. This type of education is the one that students will remember. They will graduate from our school with lots of experiences and good memories.

东华文泽学校在学生的选拔方面有哪些要求?

What are the admission and selection criteria of TWIS?

我们考虑以下3点:

    1. 学生的学业成绩-是我们了解学生的其中一项资讯;

    2. 学生的性格品德-从面试过程,老师可以看清楚学生的个性和道德品质;

    3. 家庭参与度-我们视家长为教育的合作伙伴,因为他们在孩子各个阶段的教育方面发挥着不可或缺的作用。


We look at 3 different things:

  1. Students’ academic performance – as part of the information we gather to know about the students;

  2. Students’ character – through the interview process, we can see and observe their personalities and moral qualities;

  3. Family involvement – we embrace parents as our partners in education as they play a vital role in supporting a child’s education at all stages.

该如何适应以英文为主要教学语言的教学模式?

For students with low English language proficiency levels, how can they adapt to an English-medium instruction?

孩子们天生不懂任何语言,他们都是通过四周的环境自然而然地学习语言。教学语言(英语)不仅是授课的语言,也是整个学习环境的语言。


我们的教师团队都是专业的。老师们上课时能一边教科目的知识,一边教英文。这样的话,学生就能无时无刻学习英语。他们刚入学时,可能没有信心说英语,会有一段时间感到迷茫或困惑,但很快他们就会适应沉浸在英语环境中学习。


TWIS有合适的课程安排,专业的老师和语言环境来帮助学生学习英文。


Children are born not knowing the language, it is the environment that they learn the language from. The language of instruction is not just to teach the subject, it is also the language of the environment. 


Our teachers are professional, they know how to teach their subject and English language at the same time. In this way, the students are learning English all the time; everywhere they go, they are learning it. When they first enter the school, they may not feel confident in English, feel lost or confused for a little while but quickly they will learn as they are immersed in English.


We have the program, the teachers and environment to support them.

家长究竟该如何规划孩子的转学时间?

What is your advice to parents when is the best time to transfer schools for their children?

如果你想把孩子从一间学校换到另外一间,我个人认为最合适的时间是每个学段的开头,就是刚升上小学,初中或是高中的。


但如果有家庭对目前的学校或教育不满足的话,我也会鼓励他们转学,为孩子找更好的。


我们有足够的资源收任何年级的学生。老师都是专业和有经验去应付新和旧学生的需要。


The best time is the beginning of each school division, i.e. at the beginning of primary, middle or high school. I think that is the best time to transfer if you are thinking of moving your child from one school to another school.


If a family is not satisfied with the school that they are currently at or the education they are receiving, I still encourage them to make the transfer to a new school that you want to see if they can do a better job with the child.


We have the support to receive students in any grades. Our teachers are very professional and well-experienced that they know how to manage new students and old students.

如何更好地融合中西不同教育文化和管理模式?

How does TWIS integrate the essence of the Eastern and Western cultures in education and management model?

国际学校-不属于任何一个国家的教育体系。我们的理念、价值观、所教授的课程应该包容所有的国家、种族、语言。 这才是真正的国际教育。

我们的教师团队来自世界各地;

我们的课程让学生学习世界历史;

我们尊重中国文化,所以重视中国语言、风俗、文化、文学等课程,同时亦培养学生的国际视野,学习其他世界语言。


International school – there’s no one specific flag that we fly. Our philosophy, our values, and what we teach should be inclusive of all countries, all people, all languages. That is a truly international education.


Our teachers reflect that, they come from all over the world;

Our curriculum reflects that, students will learn world history;

Our culture reflects that, we respect the host country we are in. We are in China, so it is our priority to teach the Chinese language, customs, culture, literature and so on, while we are also learning other world languages.
