Today marks the day that our first Primary School Grade 5 pupils have successfully completed their primary school education. They are about to embark onto the next stage of the education in Middle School. I congratulate them on their successful completion of primary school and their readiness to move on in their education. At the beginning of the year, I challenged all our pupils that their minds every day should hurt a little bit’. As Founding pupils at Fettes College coming from different schools around the world, you have risen to that challenge. You have made great progress in our blended Chinese and international learning environment.
Well done, you have been studious, enterprising, and helpful, not just in class but also in sport, in musicals and in all areas of school life. You have also brought warmth to other pupils in the boarding house. Seeing you grow and mature in school and in yourselves has been a wonderful experience this year. The qualities that you have shown, and you must continue next year are to be confident, calm, thoughtful and cooperative. Your teachers are very proud for you for that, and I know those at home will have seen this too and also be proud.
Keep true to the values of FCG—— Family, Academics, Nurture, Collaboration, Personality, and Inspiration. With these in your heart you will do even greater things next year.
Appreciating what you have given but also what you have received is a one of the great qualities of life. You have given this year, but you have many people to thank for what they have given to you as well. Your parents, your teachers, and your schoolmates. Remember please to take the opportunity to say thank you to those people in the days ahead.
Shortly you will enjoy a summer holiday and then return to join Middle School. Take courage from the success of your Primary Year here at FCG. Be ready to embrace the new challenges of Middle School and remember also to look to those with an open mind and heart.
My very best wishes to you all.
