01

Harry Potter week

Swipe left to read English version

Three、 Two、 One,go!

June at Harrow Haikou means the end of a stressful exam week, but it also means the start of a series of pre-summer vacation fun events!

After exam week, a series of fun activities were in full swing.

These activities were designed to help students release stress and open their minds. The leadership activities allowed students to be taught through fun experiences.

So, what’s the magic experience in June at Harrow Haikou? Let’s check it out!

01

Harry Potter week

During Harry Potter Week, Harrow students have explored a brand-new wizarding world!

Do you still remember in Harry Potter every new student at Hogwarts is assigned to one of four different houses?

The House System is the most distinctive characteristic of Harroweducation. There are six houses at Harrow Haikou.Harrow students areassigned to different houses based on their varied and unique qualities.

When students walk through Platform 9 ¾ to the surprising sorting ceremony in front of the “Hogwarts Library”, what house will they be sorted into? “Gryffindor, Gryffindor... Assign me to Gryffindor!” a student whispered.

After entering the "Hogwarts Library", everything is endowed with magical powers: the mysterious footprints that flicker under the feet, the key with wings at the corner, the dementor hanging above the head...Our students started the amazing experience just like in a Harry Potter world here.

Scavenger hunt

Treasures representing owls, golden snitches, magic wands, elf Dobby’s broom, etc. are hidden in the corners of the school library and different treasures equal to different scores.

Three, Two, One, Go! Following the order of librarian Ms. Charlotte, the students quickly embarked on a treasure hunt.

Table quidditch

As the most famous sport in the wizarding world, the most impressive thing about the Quidditch Challenge is the Golden Snitch. At Harrow Haikou, the game has a new playing method. As long as the table tennis ball representing the Golden Snitch is thrown into the cup, the student can get corresponding points.

02

Monet - Style

Artistic Exhibition

Group A, who are skilled at handicrafts used soft clay to make water lilies, and Group B, who are  masters at painting, copied Monet's paintings such as Water Lilies and, Impression, Sunrise.

Learning about Impressionist artists like Monet helps a child see that art doesn't necessarily have to be detailed masterpieces but can simply be an expression of the mood of a place or time.

It also helps them express what they see in the natural world around them. The children will get to display their artwork in combination with nature, colour and light. We are delighted to see Harrow students are creative and happy during the activities.

Swipe left to read English version

Swipe left to read English version

Swipe left to read English version

Visiting Baby Flamingos

and Saving Horseshoe Crabs

This is an activity full of love and mission. Following the flamingo conservation project, Harrow students joined the horseshoe crab conservation project.

Click to watch the video

Despite the high temperatures, Harrow students walked 4 kilometres in the tidal-flat area, looking for the round-tailed horseshoe crab entangled by earthworms, and rescuing and releasing it into the sea.

They have a strong passion for the conservation of horseshoe crabs. During this event, the students followed Harrow's core values of Courage, Honour, Humility, and Fellowship, and continued to support our community by making a positive contribution to the community.

Why did the Harrow students want to save the horseshoe crab?

Horseshoe crab (Limulidae) are marine and brackish water arthropods of the family Limulidae and the only living members of the order Xiphosura. Despite their name, they are not true crabs or crustaceans. Fossil records for horseshoe crabs extend back as far as 480 million years ago, with extant forms being living fossils. Their blue blood can be used to make Limulus amebocyte lysate, which is used for the detection of bacterial endotoxins in medical applications.

In recent years, due to the destruction of the habitat environment of the horseshoe crab and excessive human fishing, the number of horseshoe crabs has dropped sharply, and the population of the horseshoe crab has decreased significantly and is on the verge of extinction.

Harrow students also went to the Wetland Conservation Centre where they had previously adopted six flamingos. Now they have hatched three baby flamingos, and the students  witnessed the moment when the baby flamingos broke their shells.

After working in the wetlands, the teacher recalled two moving details she observed:

1

In the Harrow charity project, the funds raised by the students through the charity sale have been used for the conservation of flamingos, but the horseshoe crab conservation project still needs more donations. On the way back, Steven Sun, after a hard day in the mudflat, said, “I will come back when we have enough money.”

2

Cedric Huang shared the knowledge of wetland creatures with his classmates like a little encyclopedia. While working in the wetland, Mr. Alang picked up a horseshoe crab shell for Cedric. He held it in his hand like a treasure and walked all the way. He didn't even want to eat ice cream, so he kept holding the shell.

Ms. Meng, who led the students to carry out this activity, said, “I hope our children can step out of their comfort zone, even if we only save a few horseshoe crabs, but the children knew and realized that the lives of those were saved by their own meagre strength. Although many students felt exhausted, they still told me that they had a great sense of achievement, satisfaction, and satisfaction. I hope that through such charity activities, students can reflect on the relationship between human beings and nature, and contribute to the environment around them.

It Sounds Friday

Let’s welcome the weekend with a pop-up concert!

During the morning break, lunch break or anytime out of class, you can enjoy the music in Harrow’s rest area.

The students would sing and play the piano and guitar.

Harrow students' musical performances do not require rehearsals and can begin at any time on any occasion. There is no need to worry about playing or singing wrong. Enjoying the joy and relaxation brought by the music itself is the true meaning of our concert.

Music has been an integral part of Harrow's campus life. We give our big thanks to Mr. Pareja, our Whole School Music Specialist, who brings lively and positive atmosphere with his professional attitude in music.

05

Chamber Ensemble Concert

Chamber Ensemble Concert is derived from the Harrow’s Enrichment Activity (EA) Class in the chamber orchestra. Everyone in the orchestra can present an excellent solo, but for an orchestra, the most difficult thing is that everyone needs to achieve harmony and unity.

We hope that by preparing for this concert, students can develop a sense of teamwork and ensemble ability in the field of music. It's an amazing thing for them to pull off this concert.

Harrow Haikou Home-School

Football Game

Home-school communication is the most important relationship in the Harrow community. The school puts home-school communication and collaboration at the core and systematically builds a bridge between home and school based on the goal of promoting the healthy growth of children.

The Harrow Haikou Home-School Football Game is an activity carried out under this idea. The parents of our students signed up and quickly established a Parent Football Team. Their opponents were the Staff Football Team composed of staff from each phase at Harrow Haikou. Everyone showed the spirit of professional athletes and competed on the seaside football field of Century Park. In a friendly atmosphere, the teachers team won!

There was also an exciting lucky draw session on the day of the football game.

Through high-frequency interactions and exchanges, parents have a deeper understanding of the school's educational methods. At the same time, the school has also built a lifelong learning community for parents to grow together, and constantly share with parents the “secrets” of children's success and self-education.

Colour Fun Part 2!

Continuing the excitement of last Wednesday, the Upper School students enjoyed the fun of colour in the name of each house.

This week, we’ve also added the sessions of rope-skipping, ping pong challenge and colour powder battles!

All these themed activities build a platform for students to cultivate good exercise habits and healthy lifestyles, gain friendships, gain honours, learn leadership, and actively contribute to the community. And good habits and a positive attitude will help students to plan a fun and meaningful time for themselves during the upcoming summer vacation.

The Graduation Ceremony for Harrow Little Lions Early Years Centre and the Pre-Prep School has been held on June 24. We congratulate all students who will start their new journey with Harrow Haikou.

Please follow our WeChat post next week for more details of the ceremony.
