In our traditional Chinese culture, "Trust" is regarded as an important moral concept and code of conduct. It not only refers to the faithfulness and fulfilment of promises, but also includes trust, respect and honesty towards others. Trust is one of the most crucial factors in the interpersonal relationships and the social interactions.

From March 26~27, our I-EP G7 students went to Conghua District to conduct an exploratory trip on the theme of "Trust".

Intrduction of the Trust

开营 Camp Opening

After arriving at the camp, the students were asked to discuss two questions which related to "Trust" in their house and present the results on the stage.

Q1: What is a reliable and trusted person like?

Q2: How to generate and improve trust in a team?

The students expressed their views and worked together as a group. They all agreed that a reliable and trusted person should be highly honest and responsible, attentive, friendly, and respectful to others. Establishing and improving team trust is an process that requires time, effort, and perseverance. Team members first need to communicate openly with each other and share goals and values. Team members also need to respect each other's views, opinions, and feelings, as well as provide help and support when needed. At the same time, team members should assume their responsibilities, actively participate in team activities, and actively work together to solve problems and challenges.

Each House also has some unique points of view. For example, Unicorn mentioned "Punctuality is basic"; Peacock and Monkey both mentioned that "Open-minded people are trustworthy"; Dragon thought "To be trusted, you must do what you say, not cheat and not betray"; Oxen shouted, "Be truthful, do what you say, do what you do, and stick to your principles".

Competitions of the Trust

Human Chair

This game requires the students to sit in a small circle, be close together, in a relatively stable position. The person in front sits on the lap of the person behind, so that the person behind acts as a "chair". Once the person in front is seated, the person behind needs to maintain as much balance as possible to prevent the person in front from falling or slipping. The class then joins the game in turn, forming a chain of people, each balancing on their own "chair". If someone fell or the chain broke, the students had to start the game again until they successfully completed the task.

The students went from being cautious, unsteady and falling over, to all sitting together and being able to hold it for 10 seconds, to sitting and walking forward together for 10 steps. Well done to everyone who relied on each other and supported each other to ensure that the whole class was able to complete the task successfully!

Frisbee

The Frisbee game also requires team members to work closely to win the game by communication, which helps us realize their dependence on each other and inspires a sense of trust among them. The students fought hard for their Houses, chasing after each other, and blocking each other. The more they played, the more they had their own rhythm and the more they trusted their teammates.

Experience of the Trust

Unmanned Booth

The "unmanned booth" is the core of this "Trust" themed field trip, which aims to test the trust between people. The students prepared the goods to be displayed at the booths, including books, stationery, dolls, stickers, snacks, etc., and designed attractive posters and slogans before they set off. On that day, the booths were set up in front of the local food market. Students from both classes chose the location of the booths, set up the goods in different categories, and put up the prices of the goods in anticipation of making a profit. Although the booths did not make much income, the unmanned booths not only cultivated the students' sense of responsibility and self-management ability, as well as improved their teamwork ability, but also made them appreciate that the sense of trust between people is real.

After closing the booths, students reflected on the results of this time selling. Some said that the location of the booths was not well chosen, some said that the kinds of goods was not rich enough, and some even said that the goods were not targeted precise because they did not investigate and survey the customer groups before. All the students have their own ideas and believe that they can do better next time!

Interview

Sharing

Even though the final selling result wasn't prefect, but this did not mean that the attempt was a failure. The villagers' honest and trustworthy attitude here made us feel admired and worthy of learning. They did not take away any product because nobody was watching, and if they wanted to, they would abide by the principle of paying for them. The villagers' honesty showed us the goodness of human nature, and they proved with their own actions that even in the absence of supervision, people can still make the right choice.

Outdoor Cooking

Outdoor cooking was a challenge for our G7 students. House members needed to learn about each other's dietary taboos and preferences first, and then create a menu accordingly based on the size of the House and the amount of food. At the same time, various cooking tasks need to be allocated to each member.

When the students went to the food market to purchase ingredients, a few little bargain hunters appeared, and with serious faces, they engaged in a lively haggling with the stall owners, just to save some money to buy drinks for the house.

Upon returning to the campsite, the students immediately started making fires, preparing and cooking food, and working feverishly. There were lots of unforgettable images in the process. There were "fire watchers" who couldn't even open his eyes because of the smoke from the fires, but he still kept his posts. There were also "gifted chefs" who had never cooked before but ended up making several dishes. Finally, all the House members sat around in the sunset and enjoyed the delicious food that they had prepared through their hard work.

Orienteering

The Orienteering Is organised In Houses, each House needs to complete three tasks and identify the undercover agents in the process. Task 1: Each student needs to put on a blindfold and complete the task of "walking forward" and "putting on shoes" under the guidance of other members of the same House; Task 2: Watch a video about the evolution of the character "Trust", and write the character "Trust" in different dynasties with a writing brush; Task 3: House members work together to make phrases with the character "Trust"; and compile and tell a story about "Trust".

All of these tasks broadened the students' understanding of the theme of "Trust". Although each House encountered some difficulties, such as getting lost because they couldn’t read the paper map, all the Houses have completed the orienteering tasks ahead of schedule, and the trust and teamwork among the House members were also enhanced.

In this trip on the theme of “trust”, everyone participated actively in every activity and did their best. The ranking is important, but the trust and teamwork skills built up during the game are even more valuable. I would like to thank everyone in the Peacock House for expressing their opinions, contributing to the team, and caring and supporting each other. It was a wonderful journey of inquiry.

---  Lily Ran

The field trip was a rare opportunity to relax. Not only that, we also learned the importance of trust in teamwork. Only when all team members work towards a single goal can we reap good results. The outdoor cooking impressed me the most. Without the division of labour in advance and the contribution of every member of the Oxen House, there would not have been a table full of insufficiently cooked and delicious food.

--- Grace Yu

This field trip made us understand the importance of trust by letting us experience it first hand. Although our Dragon House encountered many difficulties during the trip, for example, many students did not know how to cook, we repeatedly failed in Frisbee games, girls were afraid of flying insects in the campsite, and we could not find the first task spot for Orienteering, we found solutions one by one. And the teachers also gave us a lot of help, which brought this unforgettable trip to a wonderful end.

During this field trip, I-EP G7 students experience the critical nature of "Trust" in a joyful and playful atmosphere. Th activities serve to demonstrate how closely trust is linked to cooperation and communication, and the importance of "Trust" in team building. When we trust each other, we create a better and more congenial social environment where people can let down their guards, open up, and build genuine and strong relationships. Trust is not only a bridge between us and others but also an enabler for us to achieve our dreams and goals. Therefore, let's connect with each other with "Trust", motivate each other with "Trust", and support each other with "Trust" in our daily lives.
