When thinking about musicals, many people immediately think of the classic musicals such as 'Cats', 'Phantom of the Opera', and 'The Lion King'.  How far is it possible to use musicals to enrich learning experience of students?

 什么是音乐剧?

Musicals are the genre of performance arts, which combine singing, speaking and dancing. By using songs, dialogue, music and dramatic artistry, the plot and the characters’ emotion and feelings are fully conveyed to the audience.

音乐剧是一种舞台艺术,它结合了歌唱、对 白、表演、舞蹈等多种艺术表现形式。通过台词、音乐、肢体动作等的紧密结合,把故事情节以及其中所蕴含的情感表现出来。

Using musical drama to teach children is a well-established educational practice and is often seen as one element of holistic education. Musicals can develop students’ learning in a variety of ways including improving their speaking, singing and dancing skills. Moreover, it can have a profound impact on stimulating the students’ imagination, inspiring creativity and augmenting their self-confidence.

音乐剧常被视为“全人教育”的重要组成部分,被广泛应用于教育。作为一种综合的教育形式,它不仅能够提高孩子的语言、歌唱、舞蹈能力,还能够培养学生的社交、想象力、创造力、领导力及自信心。

In the past school year, ISA Tianhe School has included musical performance in the teaching learning process with the intention of extending the educational experience of all our students.

爱莎天河学校始终致力于为学生打造全方位的学习社区,提供均衡发展的教育体系。在过去的一个学年中,爱莎天河学校再次创新教学方式---将音乐剧与教学相结合,让其渗透到孩子们的日常的学习生活当中, 希望能通过音乐剧丰富学生们的学习形式,打破学科的边界,帮助学生认识自己,打开心灵的眼睛和想象的翅膀。

In the International Baccalaureate Curriculum, there are six transdisciplinary themes. Teachers aim to link the classes musical performance to the UOI theme that they are exploring in class. In this way, students can develop a deeper understanding of the topic that they are working on. The variety of activities included in any musical production provides many opportunities to offer new experience to the students. For example, the teachers will assign roles for students to carry out and tasks for them to perform. These may include the creation of props andscenery, casting roles and musical arrangement. Tasks given to students are designed to develop their creativity and practical skills. Frequent rehearsals and the necessity of learning lines also have the effect of improving the students English language proficiency.

IB六大超学科主题学习当中,老师围绕着班级探究的主题,选择与主题相关的剧本给学生进行排练,让学生们对主题有更深层次的理解。音乐剧中不同形式的活动与文化,也有利于开阔学生们的视野。老师将不同角色与任务分配给学生,如道具制作,场景设计,音乐编排等,从而激发学生的创造力和动手能力;在剧本排练过程中,学生们的口语以一种更加有趣的形式得到锻炼,团队合作能力也在角色交流中得到提高。

At ISA, the school encourages students to express themselves and provides many opportunities for students. From EY1, students have the opportunity to perform at the weekly assembly. In addition, the school also organizes various events such as "ISA Festival" and "International Children's Day Celebration" to give students the opportunity to stand on the stage and perform in front of an audience.

在爱莎,学校鼓励学生表达自己并为学生提供展现自我的舞台。从幼儿园小小班2-3岁开始,学生就有机会在每周举行的集会上进行表演。除此之外,学校还举办各大型活动如 “爱莎日” 、 “国际儿童节庆典” 等活动,让学生们有机会站上更大的舞台,向全社会表演。
