The SAIS PE KIT 深美体育套装,大有来头

Parents have been supporting the SAIS PE kit which is wonderful to see but how many know the story behind it? The colours are of course instantly recognisable as the SAIS school colours but how about the Bull mascot? The bull was chosen because of the deep links that the animal has to the rise of Shenzhen.

深美家长们最近都在购买深美体育套装，这真是的非常棒！有多少人知道它背后的故事吗？这些颜色当然可以立即识别为深美的颜色，那为什么选择公牛吉祥物呢？之所以选择公牛，其实是因为它与深圳的崛起有着深厚的联系噢.

Bull Mascot

At the founding of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, the experiment of introducing elements of capitalism by then Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping began. In 1980 the mayor of Shenzhen, Lian Xiang, wanted to build a statue that represented the spirit of Shenzhen and the new Zone. What symbol to use was hotly debated – a bird, the Lotus flower, a Lion. All were rejected for various reasons. The leaders eventually agreed on the Ox – symbolic of an animal guided by the people, not proud like a Lion but an image of moving forward with head bowed as it works hard to uproot old feudal ideas.

深圳特区成立之初，时任深圳市委书记、市长的梁湘希望建一座能代表特区精神形象的雕塑。使用何种形象引发热议，大鹏、莲花、还是狮子…经过讨论最终选择了代表踏实向前、埋头苦干人民的形象——牛。

In 1984 a bronze statue of an ox weighing 4 tonnes, 5.6metres long, 2 metres high and mounted on a 1.2 metre high polished granite base was unveiled. Sculpted by Pan He, an associate Professor of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, the ox is shown pulling out a huge tree stump and its roots – the tension of the muscles clearly shown - the head bowed but moving forward to successfully completing its work. While planning his work, Pan He noticed a local farmer uprooting a large tree stump and bought it for Rmb8 and used it as a model for the final sculpture.

深圳特区成立之初，时任深圳市委书记、市长的梁湘希望建一座能代表特区精神形象的雕塑。使用何种形象引发热议，大鹏、莲花、还是狮子…经过讨论最终选择了代表踏实向前、埋头苦干人民的形象——牛。于1984年，一座重4吨、长5.6米、高2米、基座高1.2米、以花岗石磨光石片为底座的孺子牛铜雕落成了。由广州美院教授潘鹤雕成，开荒牛全身紧绷，呈现出具有张力的肌肉线条，牛头抵向地面，四腿用力后蹬，牛身呈竭尽全力的负重状。牛身后拉的是一堆丑陋的腐朽树根，象征铲除封建思想等旧根。造型鲜明地体现出埋头苦干、奋力向前的孺子牛精神。有趣的是，设计师潘鹤亲眼见过当地一位农民让一头牛将大树桩连根拔起的画面，最后他自己花了8元人民币买下这块大树桩，做成最终雕塑的模型。

The Special Fabric

Another unique aspect of the PE kit is the fabric we have chosen to make the kits. We believe we are the only school in Shenzhen and possibly in China to take have made this exciting decision. The material used is bamboo fabric which is representative of how Chinese companies have taken a common grass plant and given it a new use. So why bamboo?

深美体育套装的另一个独特之处是我们选择的与众不同的面料噢。在深圳乃至中国，很少学校会选择这种材料来制作体育套装。这个套装使用的材料是竹织物，代表着中国的公司将一种普通的草植物赋予新的用途，更是创新和科技的代表。那为什么是竹子呢？

To make a cotton t-shirt takes 1700 litres of water while bamboo needs only normal rainfall. It does not require pesticides whereas in the US 25% of all pesticides used are for cotton. Cotton needs replanting every year while bamboo naturally grows back, and some species grow as fast as 1.2m per day.

制作一件棉质 T 恤需要 1700 升水，而竹子只需要正常的降雨。它不需要杀虫剂，而在美国使用的所有杀虫剂中有 25% 用于棉花。棉花每年都需要重新种植，而竹子自然会重新生长，有些物种每天生长速度高达 1.2米。

The fabric is hypoallergenic which means even students with sensitive skin can wear it and it is also resistant to bacteria which means even our sweatiest students will not smell after PE. Combined with the natural ability to wick water away from the body this is the perfect PE material. As a progressive school, SAIS is constantly looking to new technologies and ideas about the future.
