Students entering Grade 1 have a great foundation from our broad and extensive Early Years programme. They can read and write, and they can do addition and subtraction. They know 3 dimensional shapes and are speaking English confidently. Our Grade 1 teacher Mr Edwin can begin to build on this great foundation.  In his 4th year teaching at SAIS, he has built a reputation of excellence in ensuring our students excel in English, mathematics and science. 

大部分入读一年级的学生都已经借着我们深美优质而专业的早期幼儿园课程建立了开阔而扎实的基础。他们不仅可以阅读和写作，也可以做加减法，认识三维形状，最主要还可以非常自信地用英语交流。

我们的一年级Edwin老师可以在这个扎实的基础上开始教学任务。这是Edwin老师在深美任教的第四年，他建立了卓越的声誉，确保我们的学生在英语，数学和科学各方面出类拔萃。

So, what are the differences in what is taught in mathematics in Grade 1 compared to Kindergarten?

那么，一年级和幼儿园的数学教学有什么不同呢？

In Kindergarten students learn addition and subtraction using physical or concrete methods such as abacus, counting sticks and their fingers.

在幼儿园，学生学习加减法使用的是有实物的形象方法，譬如算盘，数棍子和他们的手指。

In G1 mathematics is taught to develop their abstract or mental skills. They can learn to imagine the problem in their minds and give the answer without using physical means.

一年级的数学课程旨在培养学生的抽象和思维能力。他们可以学会在脑海中想象问题，并在不使用实物的情况下给出答案。

In K students learn about length but in G1 they begin to compare sizes and understand place value. They will begin to use a ruler to measure and record results.

幼儿园学生只是学习长度，但到了一年级，学生开始比较大小和理解位置值。他们开始使用尺子来测量和记录结果。

In G1 the work of learning shapes in K is developed further by partitioning the shapes, so learning about half and quarter and basic knowledge of fractions. 一年级的孩子们在幼儿园的基础上，借着对模型的划分，进一步学习对半分，四分之一等基础分数知识。

In Kindergarten students will learn about shadow and light, about how light passing through a prism gives beautiful colours like a rainbow.

在幼儿园，学生们学习阴影和光，学习光线如何通过棱镜产生像彩虹一样美丽的颜色。

In Grade 1 science students will learn that light is a wave and sound is a wave. They understand sound travels by vibration and can travel through a box but light waves will be blocked by the same box.

一年级的理科将学习光是一种波，声音也是一种波。他们知道声音是通过振动传播的，声波可以通过一个盒子传播，同时光波会被同一个盒子挡住。
