思维的激烈交锋中展现语言的艺术

11月30日下午CAS时间，上海宏润博源学校2020冬季英文辩论赛决赛在礼堂圆满举行。这次辩论的主题是“在中国，全民基本收入是有益且可以实现的吗？”

The CAS time on the afternoon of November 30th saw the successful conclusion of the final round of the 2020 Winter English Debate Competition of Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School in the auditorium. The topic of the debate is "Is universal basic income both beneficial and possible in China?"

辩论赛由十年级蔡晗啸同学担任主席，主持整场辩论会。角逐的两支队伍分别是以十一年级梁雨凡同学为队长的正方队伍和以十年级王研心同学为队长的反方队伍。每支队伍共四位辩手和两位智囊。

The debate competition was chaired by 10th grader Cai Hanxiao, who presided over the whole debate. The two competing teams are the pro team led by 11th grader Hina Liang and the con team led by 10th grader Wendy Wang. Each team consists of four debaters and two advisers.

随着蔡同学播音员般的英文，“各位老师，各位同学，欢迎大家参加上海宏润博源学校2020冬季英文辩论赛。下面，请允许我介绍参与辩论的两支队伍。。。”，整个会场进入了严肃紧张的辩论氛围。

Along native-announcer like English, " Honorable Principals, Distinguished Facutly, and Dear Students, welcome to Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School 2020 Winter English Debate Competition. First, please allow me to introduce our two teams here today...", the audience was invited into atmosphere of a serious and intense debate.

首先是反方一辩朱圣婷同学进行开篇陈词，她的核心观点是中国地域广、人口众多，很难实施统一的全民基本收入；只能支持一线贫困人口最低房租的费用可以供偏远山区一家人的小康生活。此外，中国人口众多，很难支撑这么多的开支，这么多钱直接流入市场之后可能会导致通货膨胀。

First of all, Stella Zhu started with the opening statement of the con side. Her core points were that China is a large country with a large population, so it is difficult to achieve a unified basic income for all. For example, lowest rent for the poor in the first-tier cities can provide a well-off life for a family in a remote mountainous area. In addition, China's large population makes it difficult to support so much spending, and so much money flowing directly into the market could lead to inflation.

其次是正方一辩李嘉芸同学进行开篇陈词，核心支撑是可以通过增加富人税收的方式实现财富更加均衡的分配，是社会主义制度发展的必要结果，也是保障社会稳定的重要条件；支持全民基本收入，给在贫困线下挣扎的人们以生活保障和希望，促进他们的学习和成长，进一步促进社会的发展。

Later, Charlotte Li presented the opening statement of the pro side. Her core arguments were that it could be achieved through a more balanced distribution of wealth by increasing taxes on the rich, which is the necessary result of the development of the socialist system and an important condition for ensuring social stability. The universal basic income can bring hope to people struggling below the poverty line, so that they have the chance to learn and grow, and further promote social development.

接下来是二十分钟的自由辩论环节，每支队伍有十分钟的发言时间。自由辩论环节最为精彩，双方都抓住对方的观点漏洞进行攻击。比如，反方说全民基本收入的实施会助长人们的惰性，因为人们会习惯不劳而获。正方进行反击：人们都有要不断变好的内在需求，基本收入保障给了人们希望,让人们可以在这个基础上不断创造价值；拿着基本收入便不再努力的人只是少数，不能因为少数人的懒惰抹杀大多数人的希望。

Then there was a 20-minute free debate, with each team given 10 minutes to speak. In this part, both sides seized on loopholes in the other's point of view to attack. For example, the con side said that the implementation of a universal basic income would encourage laziness in people because people would get used to getting something for nothing. The pro side fought back: People all have the need to grow. Universal basic income would give people hope and enable them to continuously create values on this basis. There are only a few people who woud stop working. The laziness of the few should not kill the hope of the majority.

之后是观众盘问环节，现场的老师和同学们纷纷举手发问。之后正方的四辩梁雨凡同学和反方的四辩蒋承佑同学分别进行了总结陈词，进一步指出对方观点的漏洞，捍卫本方观点。

Then, it was questions from the audience. Many eachers and students raised their hands and asked questions. After thatt, Hina Liang and Leo Jiang, the fourth debater of each side made a summary statement, further pointing out the loopholes of the other side and defending their own point of view.

随着中国在国际舞台上扮演愈来愈重要的角色，中国青少年的英文演讲与辩论能力的培养也愈发重要，尤其对于即将留学海外的同学们。他们将代表中国，向世界传递中国的声音。演讲与辩论不但是对语言表达能力的锻炼更是对思维的锻炼。上海宏润博源学校非常重视同学们演讲与辩论能力的培养，除了课堂上和学生社团，每个学期都会举行全校的英语演讲和辩论比赛，即便是上学期疫情网课期间，我们也如期举行了线上辩论会。这次的冬季辩论会，也再一次给了同学们锻炼的平台，让同学们在辩论中提升思维和表达能力。

As China plays an increasingly important role on the international arena, the development of English speaking and debating skills among Chinese teenagers is becoming increasingly important, especially for those who will be studying abroad. They will represent China and carry China's voice to the world. Speech and debate are not only the exercise of one's language ability but also the exercise of thinking. Shanghai Hongrun Boyuan School attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' ability of speech and debate. In addition to classes and student clubs, English speech and debate contests are held every semester. Even during the pandemic-forced online course last semester, we also held online debate as scheduled. This winter debate, also once again gave students a platform to exercise, so that students can improve their thinking and expressing skills.
