Dear Sendelta Community,

By the time you read last week’s message, all parents and students should have access to their PowerSchool accounts. The entire setup process has been completed for you. Upon receiving your login credentials from your homeroom teacher, all you should have to do is visit classroom.powerschool.com and log in.

Parents will be excited to see the results of our third week of school. Things have begun to pick up speed, and students are already beginning to engage in lots of interesting activities. This is especially true in our Visual & Performing Arts department.

亲爱的讯得达社区的家人们，

看到上周的工作汇报信之时，我们已经为所有家长与学生完成了PowerSchool 帐户设置，家长可从班主任处获得帐户与密码。你们只需访问该链接classroom.powerschool.com，即可登录。

相信看到书院第三周的工作成果，家长们定会很高兴。多个项目快速进展，学生们积极参与到各项有意思的活动中，尤其是视觉与艺术学科组的活动，进展顺利。

Campus Life

In Marko’s Fine Art course, students are beginning their first in a series of projects aimed at exposing them to a wide variety of artistic styles. The focus of last week’s work was still life drawings.

The students in Kay’s Orchestral Band are wasting no time mastering a plethora of new and exciting songs including music from “Phantom of the Opera” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Encouraged by their successful premiere performance at last semester’s Arts Festival, the Sanmao Orchestral Band is looking forward to many live performances this year not only for our parents but also in competitions off campus.

Next door to the band, students in our piano club are having lots of fun while showing off their skills to each other. Under the direction of our choir director Marija, I’m sure the best is still yet to come for these students.

在 Marko 老师的艺术课上首次开启系列项目以让学生们了解广泛的艺术风格。上周课仍是人体素描。

Kay 老师管弦乐队的学生也在争分夺秒加紧练习，练习新歌，其中包括“歌剧魅影”和“加勒比海盗”的乐曲。经上学期艺术节的首次演出取得圆满成功后，他们备受鼓舞， “三毛管弦乐队” 这学年将会有更多的现场演出，不仅仅表演给家长们看，还会参加校外的比赛。

就在管弦乐队的隔壁教室，钢琴俱乐部学生的训练趣味多多、展示彼此的技能。相信在 Marija 老师的指导下，学生们将会呈现出最好的表现。

The progress being made by Marko, Kay, and Marija every day is excellent news for the school as we work to build our profile as a source of high caliber talent for arts schools around the world. We encourage all of our students interested in music to take part in the upcoming visit of Mr. Daniel Abussi, the Assistant Director of Admissions of the Berklee College of Music. He is scheduled to visit campus on the afternoon of September 23rd to share insights into the program of one of the United States’ best music schools.

Fun was not monopolized by our arts courses. Last week in Miss B’s American Literature class, students competed in small groups for the chance to boost their quiz scores. Each group received a pouch filled with puzzle pieces containing literary devices, definitions, and examples. (Note: literary devices are techniques writers use to produce special effects in their writing.) The team that was able to make twelve matching sets of literary devices, definitions, and examples the fastest won the game.

These are just a few examples of what’s starting to happen in our classrooms. As each week passes the number and variety of activities will only grow.

Marko, Kay 和 Marija 三位老师每日取得进步对于书院是大好消息，这将提升书院形象，以向世界艺术院校输送高素质人才。美国伯克利音乐学院招生助理主任 Daniel Abussi 先生，将于 9 月 23 日下午来访我校，分享对伯克利（美国最好的音乐院校之一）项目的见解。届时书院鼓励学生积极参与，培养对音乐浓厚的兴趣。

不单单是艺术课程，上周 Miss B 老师的美国文学课上学生们分组竞赛来获得测试分数。每组分到的题目包含写作手法名称、定义并举例。（写作手法是指写作中采用的写作技巧以实现特别的叙事效果。）能在最快的时间内写出12个相应的写作手法名称、定义及例子的队伍将获胜。

以上是课堂上的个别例子，后面每周的活动数量及类型将不断增加。

A final note for last week concerns classroom management. In an effort to optimize the learning experience for all students, we will begin to apply stricter controls over student behavior in our classrooms. When and how technology is used, the consumption of food, arrangement of desks and chairs, and energy conservation will all be a special focus of management this month. We look forward to your cooperation in helping to make our campus a happier home for everyone.
