开学第一课，温故知新

在哈罗横琴外方校长马千里博士和中方校长李舒的欢迎下，哈罗学子们精神焕发走进校园，回归课程学习正轨。他们或积极回答课堂上的老师提问，或在小组讨论中踊跃建言献策，或在随堂小测中取得新学期学术成就的小小开门红。

尽管大家迫不及待学到新的知识，很多老师都在开学第一课帮助大家回顾上学期所学内容。在哈罗横琴，很多课堂采用跨学科教学和互动式学习，帮助大家发散思维、建立自主学习的习惯，而在老师带领下总结回顾所学知识、进行体系化梳理就尤为重要，为迎接新的知识打下坚实基础。

寄宿生回家，温暖重逢

对于我们的寄宿生来说，返校意味着回到另一个“家”，与他们的朋友温馨团聚。在欢迎大家回家的同时，寄宿导师团队在兼顾学习和个人发展前提下，策划了新学期丰富的寄宿部拓展活动。寄宿生也做好了准备迎接新学期的挑战，因为有一个强大的后盾在为他们的每一步努力加油。

课后也精彩，

CCA&SCA惊喜上新

在哈罗横琴，所有课余社团、乐队和学生组织都是全人教育的重要组成部分，课外活动可以拓宽视野，培养学生的冒险精神、领导能力、团队精神和决策能力。开学第一天，新学期的课外课（CCA）和超级课程（SCA）同步开启！

以发展兴趣热情为导向的CCA向来精彩纷呈，除了大家熟知的篮球、羽毛球、高尔夫、绘画和足球等课外活动，深受哈罗学子喜爱的特色项目赛艇、机器人、西班牙语和音乐创作项目“哈罗之声”火热续课~

新学期，很多让大家意想不到的CCA惊喜上新，与才艺或运动类课程不同，这些新的CCA更加关注创新意识和领导力特质，学生需要更多地承担项目发起者的角色。这也为同学们带来了更多探索世界的视角，和挖掘自我潜能的机会。

老师们的开学第一课

在大家返校前，哈罗横琴的老师们也一如既往开展了紧锣密鼓的培训。秋去春来，我们的教职工团队一直在努力磨练教学技能，完善教学实践，愿自身成为学子们通往卓越的指路明灯。

在哈罗，学生是一切工作的中心，儿童安全保护更是全体教职工都时刻谨记在心的重大议题，也是每个学期教师培训的第一课。副校长柯思睿女士在一遍遍强化大家对儿童安全保护和身心问题的认知之余，还提出处理问题的正确态度：信任、职业和友善。

低年级教学团队围绕课堂管理方法和教学理念开展培训，对体系化的单元制教学做了更详细的讲解和梳理，让老师们更清晰地掌握授课进度，课程准备和课堂管理也进一步形成规范。对于活泼好动的低年级孩子而言，互动和秩序兼备的课堂才能高效而寓教于乐。

而在高年级学部，所有学科的教学团队都聚在一起，探讨更有效的英文课堂教学方法，以及如何制定更精细的个性化学习计划。

哈罗横琴英语教研组组长Ms. Jane Adams向老师们强调，EAL（English as Additional Language）教学并不仅仅是英语老师的职责，而是所有科目的老师一起优化教学方法，使用符合学生当前所在语言能力的表述进行教学，拉平英语语言水平考核标准，营造一个真正能帮助非英语母语学生学有所获的学习环境。此外情感上的认可和鼓励、引导学生突破语言难关也是关键一环。

高年级学部校长艾里先生提出，新学期开学之际，是调整目标、制定计划的最佳时机。于是在一个小小的互动环节里，老师们写下了对于“一个理想的课堂”不同维度的要素。同学们有没有get到老师们对大家的期待呢？

During the first week of school, the Harrow Hengqin campus was filled with excitement: the anticipation of exploring new knowledge, the warmth of reuniting friends, and the determination to strive for excellence and self-improvement. All students, faculty and staff are all ready to embrace the infinite possibilities of the new semester with opportunities for learning and growth!

First Lesson of the Semester

Welcomed by Head Master, Dr Max Caruso, and Chinese Principal, Ms. Elise Li, Harrovians returned to campus refreshed and back on track. They either participated in classroom interaction actively, contributed to the group discussion, or took the quiz to get a small start on their academic achievements for the new semester.

Although students can't wait to learn something new, many teachers help the class to review what they have learnt in the previous semester in the first lesson of the school year. At Harrow Hengqin, many classes use interdisciplinary teaching and interactive learning to help students think outside the box and build independent learning habits. Therefore, it is especially important to summarise and review what students have learnt and to systematise the learning to lay a solid foundation for embracing new knowledge.

Warm Reunion

 as Boarders Return Home

For our boarders, returning to school means returning to another 'home' and being warmly reunited with friends. As we welcome boarders home, our team of Houseparent have planned a wide range of boarding activities for the new semester, taking into account both academic and personal development. The boarders are ready to take on the challenges of the new semester, with a strong backing to support them every step of the way.

What’s New about CCA & SCA

At Harrow Hengqin, all clubs, bands and student organisations are an important part of holistic education, with co-curricular activities broadening horizons and developing a sense of adventure, leadership, teamwork and decision-making skills. The first day of school saw the simultaneous opening of the new semester's Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) and Super Curriculum (SCA)!

In addition to typical CCA such as basketball, badminton, golf, painting and football, the CCA has always been an exciting place to develop interests and passions, with the popular speciality of rowing, robotics, Spanish and the music creation programme, ‘Sounds of Harrow’, continuing to be a hot topic for Harrovians.

In the new semester, many new CCAs have been introduced to the students, unlike those about talents development or sports, new CCAs focus more on creative minds and leadership attributes, and students are required to take on more of the role of project initiators. This also brings students more perspectives to explore the world, and opportunities to realise their potential.

Teachers' First Lesson 

of the Semester

Before students returned to school, Harrow Hengqin's teachers, as always, carried out intensive training. Over the years, our teachers have been working hard to improve their teaching skills and perfect their teaching practices, wishing to be the guiding light for our students on their way to excellence.

At Harrow, students are at the centre of everything we do. Safeguarding is a major issue that is always on the minds of all staff and is the first lesson in every semester's teacher training. The Deputy Head, Ms. Kirsty Lowery, reinforces over and over again the importance of child safeguarding and physical and emotional issues, as well as suggesting the right attitudes to deal with problems: trust, professionalism and being friendly.

The Lower School teaching team has carried out training on classroom management methods and education pedagogy and has explained and sorted out the systematic unit-based teaching in more detail, so that teachers can grasp the progress of the lessons clearly, and the preparation of the lessons and classroom management have also been further standardised. For the active children in the Lower School, a classroom with both interaction and order can be efficient and entertaining.

And in the Upper School, teaching teams of all subjects come together to discuss more effective ways of teaching English and developing elaborate personalised learning plans.

Ms. Jane Adams, Head of English, emphasised to the teachers that EAL (English as Additional Language) teaching is not just the responsibility of English teachers, but that of all teachers to work together to optimise teaching methods, to use expressions that are appropriate to the students' current language ability, to level out the standards of English language proficiency assessment, and to create a comfortable learning environment that helps non-native English speakers. Emotional recognition and encouragement to guiding students through language barriers are also important.

Mr. Ali, Head of the Upper School, said that the start of a new semester is the best time to set goals and make plans. In a small interactive session, teachers wrote down different dimensions of "an ideal lesson". Did you get what the teachers are expecting of you?
