广州博萃德学校校领导团探访英国博耐顿学校!

6月下旬，在仲夏之际，广州博萃德学校管理层代表团访问英国博耐顿学校，他们亲身见证了一所怎样的博耐顿学校？是否洞见两校之间可能有哪些值得期待的合作？我们访问了博萃德学校的总督学兼荣誉校长王殿军、执行督学马贤慧、外方执行校长Paul Rogers。

两校团队进行了为期4天多达45场的会议交流。其中，博萃德管理层参加了博耐顿学校的一个跨部门会议，参会人员包括各部门的正副主管。在会上，他们讨论学校日常运作的方方面面，以及开展最佳教学活动，从学生的个人福祉计划，个别项目的预算审批，到即将举行的杰出学生选举等种种议题。此外，博萃德团队还参加了博耐顿学校的一个跨学部会议，所有学科的负责人聚集在一起，讨论如何用最公平的方法和精英管理方式来将各种奖项分配给所有年级的学生，以表彰他们的能力和竭尽全力的精神。博耐顿学校特别注重学生的成就感和为学校做贡献的意识，这令人钦佩。

In late June, in the middle of summer, some of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) from BBSG visited Benenden School in the UK. What kind of Benenden School did they personally witness? What cooperation insights can we look forward to? To find out the answers, we interviewed Dr. Dianjun Wang, Chief School Supervisor and Honorary Principal of BBSG, Ms. Jennifer Ma, Executive Supervisor, and Mr. Paul Rogers, Executive International Head.

The teams from both schools had up to 45 meetings for over four days. The SLT of BBSG joined a cross-divisional meeting where heads and deputies discussed a wide range of daily operational considerations as well as Teaching & Learning best practices ranging from individual students’ well-being plans, budget approvals for special projects to upcoming prefect elections etc. Furthermore, the BBSG team joined a cross-departmental meeting where all subject heads collaborated to discuss the most fair and meritocratic approach towards allocating prizes to students of all year groups, acknowledging both abilities and best efforts. It was impressive to see such level of care and thoughts that go into ensuring students are well recognised for their achievements and contributions to the school.

当谈起对英国博耐顿学校的印象时，王殿军校长和Rogers校长都不约而同地用“震撼”来形容博耐顿学校面积之广博，风光之美丽。

这所占地面积240公顷，随处都是古代建筑的校园只接收500多名学生，其独特的自然条件，让“环境育人”这件事变得生动有趣。

在博耐顿，有创始人留下的经过百年繁育堪称自然博物馆的学校植物园，这里有来自世界各地的植物。你还可以在森林和草场组成的校园中闲庭信步，走上很长很长的一段时间，还原《唐顿庄园》的情境，甚至还能和很多野生动物打个照面。

博萃德团队除了实地参观学校环境与设施，也参与学生和老师的课内外活动。

很多课外活动就在户外进行。访问团走访时，一群女孩正在学校的花园里排练莎士比亚戏剧。在博耐顿学校，教育从不拘泥于教室内。

在博萃德，我们也将探索在学校里建设一片有草丛、野花、昆虫、蝴蝶的野生区域，让孩子们能够接触到自然环境。

When talking about the impression that Benenden School gave, both Dr. Wang and Mr. Rogers used ‘stunning’ to describe the vast area and beautiful scenery of Benenden School.

The 240-hectare campus of Benenden, which houses just over 500 students, includes many historic buildings whose unmatched natural advantages make the education their pupils receive, environmentally vivid and rich.

The founder of Benenden left behind a school botanical garden that has been developed over the past hundred years into a natural museum showcasing plants from around the world. Visitors can also enjoy a long nature walk through the campus, which includes forests and meadows reminiscent of Downton Abbey’s setting, and observe various wild animals.

In addition to visiting the school environment and facilities, the BBSG team also participated in the activities of students and teachers inside and outside the classroom.

A number of extracurricular activities are conducted outdoors. During the visit of the delegation of BBSG, a group of girls were rehearsing Shakespeare in the school garden. At Benenden, education is never constrained by classroom.

At BBSG, we will also explore building a wildlife area in the school with long grass, wildflowers, insects, and butterflies so that children can get in touch with the natural environment.

此次博耐顿之行代表团们着重考察了英国博耐顿学校的全人教育体系。

全人教育不是一个口号，而是真真正正地体现在博耐顿的课程里。博耐顿的体育、科学STEM教育、创客教育，以及艺术类的课程，让大家印象深刻。

作为百年老校，博耐顿的教学法和课程都很扎实，在科学教育和艺术方面尤为出色。以科学教育为例，博耐顿学校的实验室类型特别多，既有面向全龄孩子的科学普及教育，培养实践能力，提高科学素养；也有针对具有潜质或兴趣的孩子，从而实行精英教育的高端科研环境，为优秀学生拓展创新能力，培养科研人才。

博耐顿学校的艺术包括设计、音乐、戏剧等。“我们观看了学生们表演的视频，是学生们在三年前全本演出几部世界著名经典话剧《悲惨世界》、《茶花女》等，完全达到了可以对外演出的水准，博耐顿的戏剧教育做得非常成功。”王殿军校长说，这有赖于学校为学生提供了专业指导以及排练和表演的场所。除了戏剧，博耐顿学校还有乐团等，让大家真正领略到了何谓全人教育。

博耐顿学校设有100多个有趣的社团和活动供学生选择，丰富的课程和活动有助于培养学生的个性，博耐顿致力于让每位孩子找到最适合自己的活动。

正如Rogers校长所言，我们教育孩子不仅仅是为了博文强识，我们教育的是孩子完整的身心。

在全人教育看来，不分主科副科，音乐体育与英文数学同样重要。两校拥有共同的教育理念和价值观，博耐顿作为全人教育成功范例将为博萃德提供诸多有益的借鉴和支持。

During the visit to Benenden, the delegation focused on the Complete Education system of Benenden School in the UK.

A Complete Education is not a slogan but is reflected in Benenden's curriculum. Benenden's Sports, Science and STEM education, EduMaker, and Art programmes impressed everyone.

As a century-old school, Benenden's pedagogy and curriculum are solid and particularly robust in Science Education and Arts. At Benenden School, Science education is a top priority, and various laboratories are available. These labs serve different purposes, such as making Science education more accessible to children of all ages, developing practical skills, and enhancing scientific literacy. There are also high-end scientific research environments for children with the potential or interest to implement elite education, expand the innovative ability of outstanding students, and cultivate scientific research talents.

The Arts at Benenden School include Design, Music, and Drama. "We watched a video of the students' performances. Three years ago, the students performed several world-famous classic plays, such as Les Miserables and La Traviata. They had fully reached the level of being able to perform in public.” Dr. Wang says this relies on the school providing students with professional guidance and a place to rehearse and perform. In addition to Drama, Benenden School has orchestras, so everyone appreciates a Complete Education.

At Benenden School, students have the opportunity to choose from over 100 engaging clubs and activities, as well as a variety of courses and programmes that can help them develop their skills and interests. 马贤慧执行督学介绍，博耐顿把宿舍当成一个大家庭，宿舍管理人员是大家长的角色，学生们是大家庭的成员，营造出家庭氛围和寄宿文化，给学生家的感觉。

从博萃德学校的布置来看，已经在环境上最大限度地还原博耐顿的宿舍风格。而博萃德更是邀请了在博耐顿学校服务了20多年的舍监Alison Steven 女士来中国实地支持，长期担任寄宿顾问和舍监。

In Benenden, one of the delegation's missions was to focus on the school boarding system.

At Benenden, over 90% of students reside on campus as it is an all-boarding school. The boarding arrangements at Benenden are well-organised and welcoming. The housing staff are professional and highly skilled educators. The house provides ample space for communication, entertainment, study and a fully equipped kitchen.

Ms. Jennifer Ma emphasised that Benenden considers the boarding community a large family, with the boarding staff taking on the role of parents and the students as members of this big family. This creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere, fostering a pastoral culture that makes students feel at home.

Benenden Bilingual School Guangzhou has beautified its dormitory environment to match the original style as much as possible. To ensure this, we've invited Ms. Alison Steven needs full name on introduction, who has over 20 years of experience at Benenden School in the UK to support on pastoral case and boarding of BBSG.

作为英国顶级私立寄宿学校，博耐顿学校在建立百年后首次在海外合作办校，此次交流，博耐顿学校派出董事会成员、校长、学科主任、老师、宿管人员，知无不言地倾囊相授，旨在把他们的教学理念具象化，为博萃德学校提供有借鉴意义、实质性、有可行性的支持和帮助。

马贤慧执行督学说，我们与博耐顿各层工作人员进行了深入探讨，在师资、课程、科研课题和师生交流方面展开了讨论。

明年春天，将会有两位来自英国博耐顿学校的12年级毕业生，将在自己的间隔年（Gap Year），作为助教和宿舍导师来到博萃德学校服务。她们将与寄宿关怀副校长Simon Smith及其团队共同带领学生开展宿舍活动、延展课程，将最原汁原味的英式寄宿文化带到博萃德，正式开启两校学生的实地交流。

Benenden School is a prestigious UK private boarding school that has been around for 100 years. It is also the first of its kind to establish a franchising school overseas. In this exchange, Benenden School sent its board members, principals, subject directors, teachers, and boarding staff to share their knowledge and teaching concepts with us at BBSG. Their goal was to provide meaningful and feasible support in our education.

Ms. Jennifer Ma said that we conducted in-depth discussions with staff at all levels of Benenden and discussed teachers, curriculum research topics and teacher-student exchanges.

In spring 2024, it is planned that two G12 graduates from Benenden School in the UK will come to BBSG to serve as teaching assistants and Boarding Tutors during their Gap Year. They will join Mr. Simon Smith, Deputy Head of Pastoral Care and Boarding of BBSG and his team to lead students to carry out pastoral activities and enrichment programmes, bring the most authentic British boarding culture to BBSG, and officially open the field exchange between students of the two schools.
