MIS New Term | 心动的理由 一起来解锁曼校新学期的新变化

In the 2023-2024 school year, our graduates did a great performance in academy, arts, and PE. They received offers from many world-class universities likeImperial College London, andThe London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Such a fruitful achievement cannot be done without the dedication from our teaching team and the support of our administrative management team.

With the improvement of our teaching and management, we are more confident to say that our school will become better with the support of our wonderful teaching teams. In the new semester, we empower the teaching teams to a higher level by bringing in 17 new teachers which will surely infuse new energy to the holistic education in our school!

Among them, there are many excellent teachers from famous universities such as Johns Hopkins University (QS ranking: 32), University of British Columbia (QS ranking: 38), King's College London (QS ranking: 40), University of Washington (QS ranking: 76). Not only that, but we have also brought in many perfect teachers who have years of teaching experience and enjoy prestige in international education.

They come from all over the world with different educational backgrounds and working experience, upholding the same dream of education when they come to MIS. They are committed to fostering our students into global citizens with an international perspective, who are aware of the past and the era they live in, who love and respect their family and their own country.

I arrived in China for the first time almost 2 weeks ago and it has been a wonderful experience so far. I have felt warmly welcomed by everyone at MIS. Our first day as new staff began on Monday 12th August. We were quickly thrown into teambuilding events, from building and knocking down towers to learning to write ‘fu’. We learnt about the cultural differences and similarities between the West and China; both the local and international staff sharing their own stories about culture and society. It was interesting to compare British to Chinese opinions and experiences about topics like time keeping, food, dress, and communication styles. We felt as a team that this exercise would be particularly helpful for us getting to know the customs and traditions in Shenzhen. As each day passed, we became more confident in the values and mission of Merchiston, learning from Mr Lyu about the creation of the school and its links to Edinburgh Merchiston Castle School. We felt his enthusiasm for education was boundless and inspiring. As the new term begins, all new staff feel excited to welcome the students back and to get to know their characters. I am very much looking forward to building positive relationships with all the parents, staff, and students at MIS over the coming months.

My name is Mr Hunter, I am the new Head of Maths in MIS Seniors. I have been in China since 2018, working in Jiangsu Province. I am very excited to move to Shenzhen and experience a new part of China.

The school has had a well organised induction programme for me and all the new teachers. I have really enjoyed learning about the history of Merchiston, both the home school in Edinburgh and the schools in Shenzhen and Dongguan. It is clear to me that the traditions and values of the school in Edinburgh, which has an excellent reputation and a solid track record of sending students to the best universities, are present and have a high profile here too. One of the benefits of having the induction programme is that I have had the chance to meet and to immediately start collaborating with the other new teachers, some of whom are also from the UK like me, but some are from the US, Australia, and so on, and of course China too, and I feel like I have made lots of new friends already.

In order to help our new staff learn about the culture of MIS and gain a deeper understanding of their responsibilities. The Human resource department organized an induction training week.

During the training, many leader and current teachers gave training lectures, including the founder of MIS Mr. Lyv Jianjun, Acting Head of School Mr. Mark, and the Chinese principal Shi Guopeng etc. The training includes school culture, teaching philosophy, school rules and regulations. In terms of staff in different positions/departments, a series of customized thematic training were held, themed at teaching philosophy and practical teaching skills.

The induction training week, with various themes and warm atmosphere, not only passes on knowledge, but also brings new staff closer to each other. Everybody is encouraged to dedicate themselves to their education career in MIS in the future under the guidance of the educational concept of “Face to Face, hand in hand, side by side and heart to heart”.

The new journey has already begun, we will try our best to help every new staff in their brand-new start to set sails together and move ahead with advantages. 

This year marks the 7th year since MIS Shenzhen was founded in The Greater Bay Area. The school continued to reform and renovate itself in a critical period, the summer vacation. We successfully made some great changes inside the school. 

Entering the school building, a retro cafe with retro British nostalgic styles comes into sight. We hope that the cafe can be a place to inspire everyone to communicate and exchange ideas. In addition, sports fields and facilities have been refurbished such as the outdoor basketball court, tennis court, and children’s play area, waiting for your check it out. 

When we are out of school, the thing we miss the most is the canteen. In the new school term, we upgraded the canteen with smart facilities and a new management system. Meeting with children's different requirements of taste, we can also balance nutrition between meat and vegetables. The smart weighing machine can also show the name, ingredients, price, calories of the foods automatically, so as to increase students' health consciousness and self-management ability. Come with your friends and pay a visit to our canteen!

The upgrade of facilities and equipment is also part of our school culture. We are confident that MIS will help every student to immerse themselves in their studies better with a great teaching environment and philosophy and be ready to embrace their bright future.

On August 23rd ,“Welcome back, let's begin our journey of new semester altogether.”, with the passionate speech of our Acting Head of School Mr. Mark, the new semester of MIS officially kicked off. Gathering at the Castle Hall, the children strongly longed and aspired to start the new semester for all.

After the ceremonies, under the guidance of teachers, the new students and their parents felt the warmness of our education in detail again. And the parents know their children will be in good hands.

秋高气爽，少年相逢。

载着期盼和憧憬，新学期如约而至。

新的学期，我们将继续以学生为中心，从点滴做起，在追求卓越的道路上笃定前行。
