Secondary News Issue 29

Twenty-five of our finest HS geckos traveled to Beijing last weekend for the International School of Beijing’s 32nd Model United Nations conference. BEIMUN is one of China’s largest Model United Nations Conferences, hosting schools from all over China, including HK , Shenzhen, and Shanghai. It was a truly international event with schools from Korea, Mongolia, Russia and Fiji also attending! Our Geckos performed admirably, taking a few awards, including a coveted “Most Diplomatic” award. This was ISBs first in-person conference since the pandemic and it was great to see everyone reunited under the common goals on resolving the world’s problems.  

上周末我们最优秀的25名高中壁虎学子前往北京参加由北京国际学校举办的第32届模拟联合国大会。BEIMUN 是中国最大的模拟联合国会议之一，参与的学校分别来自香港、深圳、上海等全国各地区，还有来自韩国、蒙古、俄罗斯和斐济的学校！我们的壁虎学子表现十分优秀并囊括若干奖项，其中包括令人期待的《最具外交手腕奖》。这是 ISBs 自疫情后首次线下会议。能看到大家在解决世界问题的共同目标下重聚团结在一起，这太棒了！

Twenty-seven students from our MUN team went to Kuala Lumpur March 14-17, focusing on the conference theme of “Reflecting on Progress”. They debated ways to make the world a better place, with seven students winning awards! This was a valuable learning experience for all, with many discovering a true passion for political debate. 

我们MUN团队的27名学生于3月14至17日前往吉隆坡，集中参与讨论本次会议的主题《对进步的反思》，共同讨论让世界变得更美好的方法，并有7名同学在活动中获奖！这对大家来说是一次宝贵的学习经历，让更多同学发现了自己对政治辩论的热忱。 

In a highly competitive reading competition, with over 100 participants in 22 teams representing 16 schools from across Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Zhuhai, SIS finished a very creditable fourth place this year. In a nerve-wracking finale only four points separated the top four teams. It is always fantastic to see so many students from across Southern China being so passionate about reading and we look forward to competing again next year. 

来自广州、珠海和深圳16所学校的22支代表队的100多人参加了一场竞争激烈的阅读大赛，SIS代表队今年摘取了令人骄傲和值得称赞的第四名。让大家绞尽脑汁的决赛场上，排名前四的队伍只差四分。看到来自中国南方各地众多学生对阅读如此饱含热情，这太棒了！我们十分期待明年再赛。

Last week, SIS hosted the annual ACAMIS Golf Invitational in Sanya with PGA Youth Development. We saw record numbers of participants and schools with 101 student golfers in attendance from 15 schools across China. Kate L (G6) won her Girls B division by seven strokes! Other SIS Secondary participants included Andrew X (G6), Sean G (G6), & Ian T (G7). 

SIS与PGA青年发展机构上周在三亚举办了年度ACAMIS高尔夫邀请赛。我们看到了创纪录的参赛选手和学校，共有来自全中国15所学校101名学生高尔夫球手参加了比赛。Kate L (G6) 以7杆的优势赢得了女子B组冠军！SIS中学参赛选手还有 Andrew X (G6), Sean G (G6), & Ian T (G7)。

Our MS Volleyball teams had a successful showing at the Pearl River Conference tournament over the weekend. The boys won 1st place and the Sportsmanship Award while the girls came in 2nd place. Congrats to both teams on wrapping up a great season! 

我们的中学排球队周末在珠锦赛场上获得成功。男子队摘取冠军桂冠和体育精神奖，女子队荣获亚军。祝贺两支球队圆满完成了一个成功的赛季！   

SIS was fortunate to host Martin Brockman, a former British decathlete, who spent a full day with 10 PHE teachers and our Track & Field coaches. The workshop proved to be useful in upskilling our teachers so that we can offer the highest level of teaching and coaching in this discipline. 

SIS有幸迎来了英国十项全能前运动员 Martin Brockman 教练，他与我们的10名健康体育教师和田径教练度过了充实的一天。本次研讨会有助于提高我们教师的技能，使我们能在本领域提供最高水平的教学和指导。    

G12 DP2 Visual Arts students Alice W, Anneke P, Louis Y, Ryan Y, Samuel S, Sol G, and Tala K displayed the culmination of two years’ hard work on March 18th at the opening of the 2024 DP Visual Arts Exhibition. Students designed an exhibition space and curated a collection of their own works created over their two years in the DP Visual Art course, and it serves as part of their final assessment for the course. The Exhibition is on the 5th and 6th Floors of the Net Valley campus; we encourage all to visit and tour the exhibits while they are on campus for the Student-Led Conferences this week. 

3月18日在2024年IBDP视觉艺术展开幕式上，12年级IBDP2视觉艺术课的同学 Alice W 、Anneke P、Louis Y、Ryan Y、Samuel S 、Sol G和 Tala K 展示了他们两年来辛勤努力创作顶峰的作品。他们自己设计了一个展览空间并策划了他们自己在IBDP视觉艺术课程两年的创作集合，这是该课程最终评估的一部分。展览在网谷校园的5和6楼举行，我们欢迎大家参加本周网谷校区由学生主导的家长会并参观本次艺术展。 

In grade 7 math, students created Stem and Leaf plots as a way to arrange a dataset. They carefully organized the provided data, identified the suitable stem, and arranged the digits while creating a suitable key. Each student drew their plots, which were then evaluated by their peers for accuracy. 

在七年级数学课上，学生们正学习创建作为排列数据集其中一种方式的茎叶图。他们仔细组织已知数据，确定合适的提干，并在创建合适的要点时排列数字。每位同学都画出了自己的图表再由同学们互评其准确性。

Many thanks to Didi Cao, our Grade 8 parent, for sharing about her books and her passion for writing with our Chinese Language & Literature students from Grade 6 to 8. Our students were so inspired by her journey. Here are some words that resonated with them after Didi's sharing: 

"The most impressive thing about the writer's sharing this time was when she said that typing, posting on social media, sending emojis are all considered writing in our daily lives. Writing is such an easy and simple thing in our daily lives. Writing an essay or recording every small moment can also be a way to express my emotions and joy. I can relieve my stress and enjoy the process of writing." - G6 Emily C  

"Everyone can write and everyone is a writer. I used to think writers like Yu Hua and Lu Xun can only be called as writers. She also told me to write for myself." - G7 Erin Y

"I realized that the primary purpose of writing is to tell a story to readers, not to use big and fluffy words." - G8 Claire C 

"Writing is my lifelong friend." - G8 Yi Xin Z 

非常感谢我们八年级家长作家曹頔女士，她与我们六至八年级的中国语言文学课的师生分享了她的书以及她对写作的热情。同学们因由她的文学之旅深受鼓舞。以下是同学们在分享会后写下自己共鸣的文字： 

“这次作家分享最让我印象深刻的是当她说在我们日常中打字，发朋友圈，发表情包等等，都算是写作。我们在日常生活中时长都在写作。写作文，将每件小事都记录下来也能是一种发泄情绪和享受，发泄我的压力，也能享受这个过程。”- G6 Emily C
