Dear SIS Families,


Our Primary STUCO led the celebration of last Monday's Earth Day. We aim to promote environmental literacy and encourage the community to take action. STUCO challenged all classes to see how much electricity they could save to help raise awareness. Each action earned the class various points, for example: 


  • No TV - 5 points

  • Lights off - 10 points

  • No iPads - 15 points

  • No air-conditioning - 20 points


This was indeed a challenge, and we applaud everyone's efforts. 

Congratulations to Grade 4, the winners at The Bay campus! and Congratulations to Kindergarten & Pre-K1, who tied for first place at our Jingshan campus! Overall it was a very positive experience, and our students showed how principled and responsible they are.

亲爱的家长,


我们的学生会在上周一的地球日庆祝活动中发挥了主导作用。我们旨在提倡环境素养,鼓励社区采取行动。学生会向所有班级发出挑战,看他们能节约多少电力以帮助提高意识。每个行为都为班级赚取不同的积分,例如:


  • 不看电视获得5分

  • 关灯获得10分

  • 不使用iPad获得15分

  • 不开空调获得20分


这确实是一个挑战,我们对每个人的努力表示赞赏。恭喜太子湾校区的四年级同学们获得了胜利!同时也祝贺K年级和Pre-K1年级在鲸山校区并列第一!总体来说,这是一个非常积极的经历,我们的学生展现出了他们有原则、有责任心的一面。


Tree-Planting at Jingshan Community

鲸山社区的植树活动

The "Green Little Thumb", an ASA offered in Jingshan, is a group of enthusiastic students with a love of gardening and a passion for nurturing their environment. For the Earth Day celebration, they suggested to plant trees around the campus. After some research, they decided that the presence of an Osmanthus tree would contribute to cleaner air and support greener surroundings. They sought permission from the Jingshan Management and got their project approved!


The tree-planting initiative encourages students:

  • to actively participate in environmental conservation 

  • to foster a sense of responsibility towards nature

  • to take part in the planting process

  • to see that their ideas matter and will make a difference in the world.


Well done, Green Thumb-ers!

“绿色小指”,一个在鲸山校区提供的ASA课外活动课,是一群热爱园艺并热衷于呵护环境的学生组成的团体。为了地球日庆祝活动,他们建议在校园周围种植树木。经过一些调查研究,他们决定种植桂花树,以改善空气质量并支持更加清洁的环境。他们征得鲸山管理部门的许可,并获得了项目批准!


这项植树倡议鼓励学生:

Sustainable Learning: Transforming Cardboard into Firetrucks

可持续学习:将纸板变成消防车

Meanwhile, the Nursery Bunnies and Caterpillars friends participated in a fun and sustainable practice by recycling cardboard and toilet paper rolls. They transformed the cardboard boxes into firetrucks while repurposing toilet paper rolls as water hoses. 


The students engaged in imaginative role-play to develop their critical thinking skills and creativity. Their next step is to visit a real fire station!

与此同时,Nursery的小兔子们和毛毛虫朋友们参加了一项有趣又可持续的活动,他们将废纸板和厕纸卷进行了回收利用。他们把废纸板盒变成了消防车,还利用厕纸卷做成了水龙带。


学生们参与了富有想象力的角色扮演活动,以培养他们的批判性思维能力和创造力。接下来,他们计划前往真实的消防站参观!


PSA's Book Swap: Supporting Sustainable Practices at SIS

PAS家委会图书交换:在SIS支持可持续性实践

Many thanks to our PSA for hosting book swap events on both Jingshan and The Bay campuses. Thank you to all families who supported this event by sending their books from home.


Book swapping is a sustainable practice that helps us dispose of books and get new ones while contributing to waste reduction. This "free" event also helps with the SIS community spirit of sharing as we promote our love of reading. Until the next book swap!

非常感谢我们的PSA家委会在鲸山和太子湾校区举办图书交换活动。感谢所有支持此活动的家庭,他们从家里寄来了自己的书籍。

Grade 1 Inventor Exhibition

一年级发明家展览


Grade 1 invited parents and other students to visit their classrooms and learn about how nature can inspire human ideas and inventions. Leading to this, students learned about inherited traits and learned behaviors. They also explored specialized structures of living things and how they help with survival. Finally, the concept of biomimicry was introduced to illustrate that the natural world is often the source of ideas for inventions.


This transdisciplinary unit looked into 3-dimensional shapes, the design cycle process, and nonfiction writing. The inquiry focused on the skills of thinking, designing, problem-solving, and evaluating.


Our students were so proud of being experts who teach adults and other students. They cannot wait until next time to be able to demonstrate their knowledge to the greater SIS community!

一年级邀请家长和其他学生参观他们的教室,了解自然如何激发人类的创意和发明。在此之前,学生们学习了遗传特征和学习行为。他们还探索了生物的专门结构以及它们如何帮助生存。最后,引入了仿生学的概念,以说明自然界通常是发明创造灵感的来源。

Grade 2 Environmentalists 

二年级的环保主义者们

Grade 2 students embarked on an engaging summative project where they channeled their creativity and knowledge to create their original games. This inquiry allowed the students to learn about habitats, living and nonliving things, and the intricate relationships within those habitats such as predator/prey dynamics. Further, they learned about natural processes such as the oxygen cycle, pollination, and seed dispersal. Using this knowledge, the students designed interactive and educational games. The excitement was shared through playing the games with fellow students, teachers, and staff at SIS. Through this project, the students showcased their understanding of the concepts and fostered a sense of collaboration, communication, and shared learning within our school community.

Grade 3 Scientists

三年级科学家


As part of How the World Works Unit of Inquiry, third graders have been learning about balanced and unbalanced forces. Students borrowed some equipment from Net Valley and were able to use ramps to explore friction and to use springs to see how waves form.  Learning about magnetic forces proved to be an engaging and fun activity for all as we explored and learned about magnetic fields and attracting and repelling forces. 


Students later applied their newly acquired knowledge by simulating a real life problem from their daily lives. Some examples included using magnets on car bumpers to avoid collisions, using magnets to increase movement of wheelchairs, and collecting legos in a more effective ways.

作为世界如何运作探究单元的一部分,三年级学生一直在学习平衡力和不平衡力。学生们从网谷校区借了一些设备,并能够使用坡道来探索摩擦力,并使用弹簧来观察波浪是如何形成的。当我们探索和了解磁场以及吸引力和排斥力时,了解磁力对所有人来说都是一项引人入胜且有趣的活动。

五年级 PYP 项目成果展

Congratulations, Grade 5! For eight weeks, SIS students dedicated themselves to intensive inquiry-based learning, delving into thought-provoking topics. Their hard work culminated in a showcase of their learning, which was shared not only with the SIS community but also with four other schools in the region. This collaborative effort fostered a sense of unity and shared learning among students from different schools. The PYP Exhibition at SIS exemplified the school's commitment to holistic education and the transformative power of student-driven inquiry. Watch the video below. 

恭喜五年级同学们!在过去的八周里,SIS的学生们全身心投入到基于探究的深度学习中,深入思考发人深省的话题。他们的辛勤工作最终在展示学习成果中得以体现,这不仅与SIS社区分享,还与该地区另外四所学校共享。这种合作努力促进了来自不同学校的学生之间团结和共享学习感。SIS PYP项目成果展充分体现了该校对全面教育和由学生主导探究带来转变力量的承诺。请观看下面的视频。

小学学生会烘焙义卖

Congratulations to STUCO for a successful bake sale today. They raised ¥3512 and this will go towards improving some student spaces around our school.  Many thanks to all the families who supported this event!
