Dear SIS Families,

At SIS, we use the Second Steps program to support students' social-emotional learning (SEL). The lessons for SEL teach our learners important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school be a safe, respectful place where everyone can learn.

The program is organized in 3 to 4 units each year. The units include skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem-solving. In addition, our counselors complement the SEL lessons with specific topics. Currently, classes are engaging in the Bullying Prevention unit. This unit addresses the importance of empathy, respect, and kindness, teaching children to recognize, prevent, and respond to bullying behaviors. Through engaging activities, discussions, and role-playing exercises, students learn about the different types of bullying, its impact on individuals, and strategies to intervene and seek help. They also develop skills in assertiveness, conflict resolution, and building positive relationships. 

Your counselors have sent the information about the bullying prevention unit through Seesaw. Please double check this information.If you hear any stories at home that you would like us to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact our counselors, teachers, or principal. Thank you for your support.

在SIS，我们使用第二步计划来支持学生的社交情感学习（SEL）。SEL课程教导我们的学习者重要的技能，帮助他们与他人相处融洽，并在学校取得良好成绩。它还有助于我们学校成为一个安全、尊重的地方，让每个人都可以学习。

Congratulations to the Junior Girl Experts who won first prize and the honor of representing SIS in the Shenzhen regional Battle of the Books! This Grade 4 team includes Ola Choi, Jane Hwang, Sophia Gil, Jane Lee, Amy Kim, and Ella Bashford.  They will travel to QSI Shenzhen on April 17 to compete against other schools in the area.

Battle of the Books is a reading competition sponsored by the Pearl River Delta Librarians' Network.  Students form teams, read the 10 books on the BOB list, and battle it out to see who the book experts are. SIS had 58 students in Grade 4 and Grade 5 participate in the lunchtime ASA this year.  Congratulations to all the 11 teams who played BOB in 2024! And good luck to the Junior Girl Experts on April 17! 

恭喜 Junior Girl Experts 荣获第一名，并有幸代表SIS学校参加深圳地区的“图书大战”比赛！这支四年级团队包括Ola Choi、Jane Hwang、Sophia Gil、Jane Lee、Amy Kim和Ella Bashford。她们将于4月17日前往QSI深圳校区，与该地区其他学校进行比赛。

“图书大战”是由珠江三角洲图书馆员网络赞助的阅读比赛。学生们组成团队，阅读BOB书单上的10本书，并展开激烈竞争，以确定谁是图书专家。今年，在午餐时间的ASA活动中，SIS有58名四年级和五年级学生参加了比赛。祝贺所有在2024年参与BOB比赛的11支队伍！并祝愿 Junior Girl Experts 在4月17日好运！

Before the spring break, Ms.Li Aiqin, an expert in Chinese reading and writing, conducted a three-day writing training for our Mandarin teachers. Ms.Li Aiqin discussed and shared the topics of writing workshops, writing progress in teaching practice, and writing interaction skills. Ms. Li conducted class practices through discussions, sharing, and co-teaching demos with teachers.

As a Chinese reading and writing expert, Ms.Li held a Parent EDU called "Growing Little Writers". She talked about the principles of writing from the perspective of writing purpose and writing progression. In addition, she shared some useful writing strategies and tips that parents may use to support their child at home.

春假前，中文读写专家李爱琴老师为我们的中文老师进行了为期三天的写作培训指导。李爱琴老师和中文组的老师们一起探讨了写作工作坊的、教学实践中的写作进展、写作互动技巧等主题。李老师通过与老师的讨论、分享与合作备课，亲自指导课堂教学。

作为中文读写专家，李老师还给家长进行了一场题为“成长中的小作家”的家长讲座。从写作目的和写作进展的角度，深入浅出地为家长分享了写作的原理。同时，她也分享了很多家长可以支持孩子写作的方法和贴士。
